I bought five of the best-selling gingerbread cookie cutters and decided to put them to the test. Three of the sets featured only gingerbread people, while two of them had a gingerbread person as well as other seasonal shapes like Christmas trees and snowflakes. To keep things as fair as possible, I only included the results from the gingerbread people in my ranking, but I did test the other shapes as well.

Crucially, this set comes with five different sizes of gingerbread person. The largest measures 4.85x3.82", which is a great size for little kids who are still honing their piping skills to decorate. The smallest cookie cutter in the set has a 1.18" diameter and produces gingerbread cookies so tiny and adorable they will make you want to cry. There are three sizes in between, all of which produce clean-cut cookies that are clearly recognizable as gingerbread people.

If you want more variety, the brand also makes a nine-piece set that comes with one gingerbread person as well as other shapes like a Christmas tree, a bell, and a snowflake. They have the same ergonomic holders, and most of the cookie cutters are around 3x2".

Hey friends I am a LOVER of Horror and all things spooky... But I've found I tend to shy away from some of the bigger names that have been around for a minute. Of course I've read King, and I read contemporaries like Joe Hill, Stephen Graham Jones, Grady Hendrix, Ania Ahlborn, all of those. But when it comes to Nick Cutter, Josh Malerman, Catriona Ward, Darcy Coates, etc, I just haven't got into them and don't know where to start. So I want to dive into Nick Cutter ... What's his absolute best in your opinion?

Christine Cyr Clisset, deputy editor and author of a previous version of this guide, said she finally bought herself a refurbished Vitamix 5200 after years of long-term testing various Wirecutter blender picks. Christine said the first five (or so) times she used her 5200, she noticed a slight burning smell while making her morning smoothies.

I thought my readers might like to know what is going on behind the scenes here at SewCanShe when I design quilts. As of late, I design almost all of my quilts with Accuquilt dies in mind. Cutting every fabric piece with a rotary cutter now seems slow and tedious to me. I am almost 47 and feel entirely too old to mess with that! Ha ha.

A few years ago Accuquilt was running a promotion where you could get the smaller Accuquilt GO ME! for free if you spent a certain amount. The sales were really great at the time (they aways are, lol) and I went for it. The GO ME! is a smaller manual die cutter but it can still do a lot.

The days of scissors and templates have given way to rotary cutters and rulers. Like everything in quilting, there are many options to choose from. A common question is what is the best size rotary cutter for quilting? I have your answer in this guide to the different size rotary cutters available.

Rotary cutters require very little maintenance besides changing the blade. Sometimes fabric dust can collect around the nut that holds the blade in place or in between the safety shield. This can be cleaned when you change the blade.

Most rotary cutters have a similar mechanism for changing the blade. You unscrew the nut, remove the small center shield (it covers the blade) and then the blade. Clean any dust from the center and replace with a new blade. Reassembling is always the tricky part. If you use Olfa cutters, you can find blade change instructions here.

Great post Julie! My very first quilt was made with cardboard templates that I traced around with a pencil and then cut out with scissors. We have come a long way and rotary cutters have made quilting so much faster and fun.

What is the best way to dispose of used blades? There used to be a place that would take old blades and replace them with either new or re-sharpened blades, but they seem to have stopped offering this service.

Thanks, Julie, for your very helpful tips on rotary cutters. I find I am always cutting myself on the new blade when I attempt to make a change because the blades in the new pack are stuck together with some type of oil or lubricant. I have tried pulling them apart with duct tape but it does not work very well and I always slip and nick my fingers. Am I buying them wrong blades? How do you get them apart? Maybe I need to get those special gloves?

Interesting post I am more interested these days in the handles of the blades as I have a wrist problem and there are many different handles on the market what do you find suits your way of cutting best.

Talking about rotary cutters horror stories, one of my friends, one evening was using her embroidery machine while cutting some fabric. the next minute she went through the embroidery machine cable. She, almost electrocuted herself, and left the whole house without power.

Thank you for the wonderful info about different rotary cutters

Wow! You nailed it, Julie!! Spot on with your rotary cutter information. Thanks for a great review!! I hope that you are doing well. I hope that your area is not too soggy from all the rain that CA has received these past few weeks. Stay safe and dry.

I have been doing all of my cutting with an Olfa snap blade knife since I began. However I went to a lacing class last week and though the lesson was simple it was very informative, Even though I still don't know how to braid with two colors:>) The thing that impressed me, was how easy it was to cut a very fine, straight cut, using a rotary cutter. I had never used one before but now I want one, and I only want one. Olfa makes many sizes and handle positions, but I thought I would get some first hand knowledge from some of you that have been using them. Is there one you would suggest over the Olfa? While price is always important, in this case I hope to have it for years, so the expense would be one time, since I am assuming I can keep the blade honed up on the buffing wheel and strop. So lets hear some opinions.

I did some work with denim and other fabrics some time ago and bought two Olfa rotary cutters - the 60 and 28mm version - for that. Then I stopped working with fabrics and focused solely on leather, so the rotary cutters weren't used for some time until I did a bit of work with elk leather which is very spongy and actually rather hard to cut.

I have several lying around, three 45mm (The one from Tandy, one Olfa, and one Fiskars), one 60mm Olfa, and one 45mm Fiskars that I put a pinking blade in for when I cut waxed canvas to keep it from fraying. With only one, I always found myself looking for it and could never find it when I needed it, so over the years I have accumulated quite a few. Much like the many pairs of scissors that I have. It also helps that I always buy them with a 40%, 50%, or even 60% off coupon at Joann's. They are pretty much the same IMO, I really don't see a difference in how they handle regardless of the design. The key is to have a sharp blade. When you have a new or sharp blade the rotary cutter will cut like butter.

What I had not realized about the cheap cutters is that you are not going to be able to do precision work. With the way the Proxxon sits on the table with the grid and various extra rulers, you can make things price.

I have decided that the big chunks of foam + the Proxxon cutter now stays in my room in our summer-home. It is simply too big (and a bit ugly) to have in the apartment (where most of my stuff hobby is hidden in small drawers).

Hi, I am printing cookie cutters with stamps for customers and I am using an Ender 5 and Cura. Now something like this angel is taking almost 3 hours to prints and things like Santa and elf faces too. Is there a really good quality setting on cura that anyone can recommend so they print a bit faster so I can get more printed off per day? My current settings are Super Quality .12mm. I have tried other quality prints like Dynamic and Standard which are still printing nicely but still take quite a while. I am setting the cutter on Cookie Cad to 8mm deep, 0.8 thickness, 2mm imprint depth, 3mm height x 3.5mm depth so they are sturdy. I want nice smooth prints which I get on my current settings but would like to do them faster

This cutter took a second to figure out how to use, but once we got it going, it was incredibly satisfying. It comes with extra blades, but I, for one, am not thrilled about the idea of swapping razor-sharp blades in and out.

For a classic tool that will get plenty of use year-round, we suggest the Nordic Ware Lattice & Hearts Pie Top Cutter, a reversible pie-top cutter that performed exceptionally well in testing. If you're looking for a pastry wheel, opt for the Norpro Stainless Steel Ravioli/Pastry Wheel, which is actually two pastry wheels in one.

Edit to add: The only "real" money I've spent besides on good crimpers is for an example of "lineman's scissors" which have little grabby serrations on the cutting edge. Worth two pennies for every penny I spent buying them. Otherwise, disposable sidecutters are FINE (can't use the D word).

I guess I'm just an IT redneck. I use a pair of dikes (some call them diagonal cutters) to cut the cable, and if I'm crimping an end on the cable, I use a normal pair of scissors to even the ends of the wires out before putting the end on and crimping it.

Faster feed - with the 'pacman' design and the hinge on palm-end of the cutter, I dont have to take my hands off the grip to cut the wiring, and I can use for removing wire that has been run previously. 2351a5e196
