Improving the knee and redesigning the activation switch on previous year prosthetic knee to increase toe-clearance during swing phase
Designing an ankle-foot unit to facilitate shock absorption and energy return in conjunction with the activation switch
My main role within the team was to assist in designing and 3D modeling the knee and ankle prosthetic. I created parts, assembly, and drawings.
One of my other roles on the team was to perform FEA analysis on the parts that experience the high forces. I had to determine where and what type of fixtures to place on the modeled part. Additional, I had to determine force the magnitude, direction and placement of force vectors on the model. From these analysis, the I was able to determine areas where material could be removed to reduce weight and if the parts met the factor of safety requirement that was specified. The program that I used to run these simulations was SolidWorks.
