In 2018, I ran for Congress as a Democrat, for Oregon's 3rd District. Though I was not victorious, I'm very proud of what I accomplished.
I ran a grassroots campaign in accordance with my progressive ideals. I didn't have any large donors; instead, I spent my time meeting one-on-one with my neighbors, at neighborhood association meetings, at political events, and at their doorstep. I knocked on over 1,000 doors all over Portland.
Instead of paying the $2,500 fee to get my candidate statement printed in the voter's pamphlet, I collected over 400 signatures from people in my community who were interested in seeing a progressive primary challenger on the ballot.
