Public transport in Belarus
Minsk has an efficient public transport system consisting of buses, trolleybuses, and trams. The network covers all parts of the city and offers convenient and cheap travel options.
Tickets for public transport can be purchased from ticket booths or directly from the driver. Remember to validate your ticket upon boarding. A ticket costs about 1 BYN rouble/journey.
Minsk metro
Minsk has a modern and efficient metro system, which is a popular mode of transportation for both locals and tourists. The Minsk Metro consists of three lines, the Red Line, the Blue Line, and the Green Line. It covers most of the city's key areas.
The metro is known for its cleanliness, punctuality, and affordability, making it a preferred choice for many travelers.
Bike and electric scooter rentals
Minsk offers bike and electric scooter rental services, providing tourists with an eco-friendly and fun way to explore the city.
To rent a bike or an electric scooter, you can use various mobile apps associated with rental companies operating in Minsk. These apps allow you to locate the nearest available bikes or scooters, unlock them through the app, and start your ride.
Coaches to national and international destinations
Apart from the public transport within the city, there are suburban and international bus services connecting Minsk to other cities and towns in Belarus and neighboring countries.
International venues include Vilnius Lithuania, Warszawa Poland, Riga Latvia, Prague Czech Republic, Berlin Germany, Amsterdam Netherlands. These international buses usually depart from the Minsk central bus station.

Driving a car in Belarus
If you are planning a long stay in Belarus and going to drive a car, you should consider that your domestic driver's licence or International Driving licence allows you to drive in Belarus for a 3-month period.
To drive a car for a longer time on Belarusian territory you should obtain a Belarusian driver's licence.For this you should attend a 3-month course in a driving school in Belarus (or other CIS country) and pass the knowledge and driving skills tests administered by the State Traffic Inspection (traffic police).
Traffic drives on the right. The motorway speed limit is 120 km/h. Road signs are in Cyrillic, although signs at major junctions are also in Latin script. Very few foreign travel insurance policies are accepted in Belarus. Insurance can be purchased at the border; charges start at 5 euros for 15 days. Minsk offers car rental services for tourists who prefer the flexibility and convenience of having their own vehicle. Renting a car allows you to explore not only the city but also the beautiful countryside and other regions of Belarus at your own pace.

Railway transport in Belarus
Belarus has a well-developed railway network, and Minsk serves as a crucial railway hub connecting major cities within the country and neighboring countries.
Tickets for trains can be purchased at railway stations, ticket counters, or online through the official Belarusian Railway website. The ticket desks of the Minsk Central Railway Station are open 24h. Separate desks for Local (пригородный) and Intercity (междугородный) trains. The International ticket office is just opposite the Central Railway Station.

Accommodation
Your first days of accommodation in Minsk and other cities of Belarus. The cheapest comfortable hotels are around 100 BYN (± 35€) per night.
We recommend the hotel of Saint Elisabeth monastery. Beautifully well-equipped rooms. A self-service restaurant with a large variety of foods.
Numerous shops, banks, and a commercial centre nearby. Direct buses to the city centre. Website of the monastery in English, French, German, Italian.
Short – medium – long-term rental of apartment
Furnished apartments can be rented in the centre of Minsk from as little as 200€ per month.
Buying real estate in Belarus: Purchase of an apartment or house
Although the real estate market in Belarus is on the rise, the prices are rather moderate (As from 50.000€ for a flat or one bedroom apartment in the centre of Minsk).
Foreign citizens need to bear in mind that land is not for sale, only the buildings, purchases of real estate are accompanied by a long-term land rent contract (for 99 years at most).
Houses in the outskirts of Minsk or in the countryside are available as from 10.000€.
Land plots can be privately owned by foreign citizens and stateless persons if they inherit the land from a relative unless stated otherwise by the legislation.

Medical care
Medical care is entirely free for all Belarussian citizens and foreigners holding a permanent residence permit. As a tourist or as a temporary resident you will have to pay for your treatments. Urgencies though, are covered by your compulsory medical insurance upon applying for your residence permit.
