Most people are saying to use a 3rd party file manager to browse to the alarm sound in the file system which is like /system/media/audio/ringtones/galaxy/file.ogg or something close to that. Then open the file with XYZ player and then tell the player to set it as the default alarm sound.

I would like an alarm (or beep or something, the sound is not the priority) to go off for a few seconds once a countdown timer expires. I've got the countdown timer part working. After searching around the web, my thought is to use the following lines of code for the alarm part:

I've got a raw directory (it's empty), but can not figure out find or how to get an audio file in there. Or how I could access a default alarm or ringtone. I think the audio file only needs to be a few seconds long or I will have to figure out how to end the MediaPlayer after a few seconds (that would be my next challenge.)

Under X, like when using Unity, KDE, Gnome Shell, the beep events are captured by PulseAudio thanks to module-x11-bell, which is loaded by default at /usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11. And the sound sample PulseAudio plays on beep, bell.ogg, is blank by default. Additionally, the bell volume may be muted.

If you have actual speakers connected to the computer and you're not getting a beep it's likely because you are using compiz. Compiz is relying on pulseaudio catching the beeps and playing them while metacity bypasses the usual setup and uses libcanberra to play a beep sound. If it works with metacity and not compiz that is your problem, otherwise the answer htorque gave is corrent.

So I set my alarm and I set it to a custom ringtone but for the last 3 months it hasn't played the sound and only vibrates! Why? I've reset the phone and even turned off do not disturb but it still won't play the sound! Anyone else have this problem?

I purchased an alarm system. I have three floors in my home. I have a base station on the main level, and a keypad in the basement. When somebody opened the door, I heard no chime (beeping) on the second level. I purchased a Dome Siren, but it gives a siren and is not chime when the door is opened. Which devices make a sound when doors are opened? I need to hear chime on the second floor.

Thus, people who used more melodic alarms reported feeling more alert in the mornings, whereas those whose alarms had harsher sounds, like that of intermittent beeping, said they felt groggier and less awake.

I just experienced the same thing. The beeping lasted for about 10 seconds and then abruptly stopped. I was on Instagram. I am certain that it was not a government alert as I was looking at my phone while it was happening.

McFarlane has co-authored several studies about the effects of certain alarm tones on sleep inertia, or morning grogginess, and his research suggests that melodic alarms are better at stirring us out of a state of unconsciousness than obnoxious "beep-beep-beep" tones like Radar. This recently led him to develop an experimental alarm called "Dawn Birds Deliberate" that taps into elements of musical theory like tempo, frequency, and phrasing for a more pleasant and gradual waking experience. It's "imagined as a conversation between two dawn birds deliberating the beautiful sunrise and the day to come" (his words), and it really is quite lovely.

You can buy "Dawn Birds Deliberate" for a few bucks from the iTunes Store and Bandcamp, or just keep reading to see Mashable's unofficial ranking of 10 standout alarms that are already pre-loaded in your iPhone's ringtone library. Plenty of them are eons better than Radar, but shockingly, it's also somehow not the worst one you could be waking up to every morning.

@elmando: Please try opening the Phone app > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Settings > Call alerts & ringtone > Allow alarm/notification sounds in call, and toggle this option on. Let me know if this helps.

@elmando: I just tested this, and I too got 3 beeps in short sequence when my alarm went off while on a call. For me this makes sense, as you wouldn't want your full alarm tone to interrupt the call, but you're still notified of the alarm via the beeps, and a pop up notification to Dismiss/Snooze. I hope this helps.

After each beep and each set of beeps, the BIOS should detect if the user presses the power button. If so, the BIOS jumps out from looping and performs the normal shutdown process and powers off the laptop.

If the computer passes the power-on self-test or POST, the computer may give a single beep (some computers may not beep or beep twice) as it starts and continues to boot. However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer may generate a beep code or LED code indicating the potential source of the problem.

"We think that a harsh 'beep beep beep' might work to disrupt or confuse our brain activity when waking, while a more melodic sound like the Beach Boys 'Good Vibrations' or The Cure's 'Close to Me' may help us transition to a waking state in a more effective way.

Mine does not look like that at all. I have an iphone. When I go to settings there is no way to change sounds or volume there in the app. I changed it in my phone and watch to no sound but ut is still beeping loudly on both and the only thing that works is to close the app out completely. e24fc04721
