As work on the road progressed a settlement pattern developed that is still visible. Original towns and villages are found along the National Road, many barely touched by the passing of time. The road, also called the Cumberland Road, National Pike and other names, became Main Street in these early settlements, earning the nickname "The Main Street of America." The height of the National Road's popularity came in 1825 when it was celebrated in song, story, painting and poetry. During the 1840s popularity soared again. Travelers and drovers, westward bound, crowded the inns and taverns along the route. Huge Conestoga wagons hauled produce from frontier farms to the East Coast, returning with staples such as coffee and sugar for the western settlements. Thousands moved west in covered wagons and stagecoaches traveled the road keeping to regular schedules.

In the 1960s Interstate 70, leaving many businesses by the wayside, bypassed Route 40 and much of the National Road. The emphasis was on faster cars and quicker arrival time. We scurry along at a hurried pace today, but when we want to relax, take our time and see some sights, we once again travel the National Road. The timeless little villages in quiet hamlets and valleys beckon us to small restaurants for a home cooked meal and a trip back in time when the pace of life was slower and less stressful. As we returned to present day, via the Interstate which often parallels the National Road, we leave behind the old inns and farmhouses to pay silent tribute to the ghostly presence of cattle drives, Conestoga wagons and a relentless quest for the west.

In this paper, we propose a method for deep-learning-based real-time road traffic predictions using long-term evolution (LTE) access data. The proposed system generates a road traffic speed learning model based on road speed data and historical LTE data collected from a plurality of base stations located within a predetermined radius from the road. Real-time LTE data were the input for the generated learning model in order to predict the real-time speed of traffic. Since the system was developed using a time-series-based road traffic speed learning model based on LTE data from the past, it is possible for it to be used for a road where the environment has changed. Moreover, even on roads where the collection of traffic data is invalid, such as a radio shadow area, it is possible to directly enter real-time wireless communications data into the traffic speed learning model to predict the traffic speed on the road in real time, and in turn, raise the accuracy of real-time road traffic predictions.

Planning is a must if you want to have a successful first long road trip. Your entire travel team needs to be on the same page about the itinerary and trip pace. Is this a get-lost type of road trip? Or will you be hitting must-see destinations every single day?

The best way to explore the islands is to drive around. Then you can stop off wherever you like, uncover remote beaches, little cafs along the road, take nice shots, watch paragliders floating in the sky... and simply wander around, in total freedom. There are buses running in the main island, but routes are very limited.

Okinawa is pretty serious about food. It's just another level. Well, there's a reason why it's called the land of longevity! It's fresh and organic and thus, absolutely delicious. I had one of the best meal of my life there -who knew beetroot cheesecake would be so good? If you visit Geruma Island, don't miss the restaurant in the orange container (read more about it in this post!). I could go back in Okinawa just to have lunch there one more time!

Thus, the safe stopping distance can be estimated from the speed of the vehicle and the driver's reaction time. The calculation made in the UK Highway Code is based on optimal conditions but as established above, RT increases substantially for low contrast, low luminance targets.23 We must conclude that the Highway Code underestimates CSD for driving on unlit roads.

The project is substantially complete now that paving and final striping have been done (see below image of Walnut Creek/Concord border). All that remains are smaller items including sign installations and site cleanup prior to closing out the project. There will also be some traffic signal cabinet replacement work taking place at the Winton Drive and Oak Grove Plaza intersection sometime within the next month, but traffic impacts will be minimal. Thank you for your patience during construction of the Treat Boulevard Pavement Rehabilitation Project (Phase 1). Construction of Phase 2 of Treat Boulevard (San Miguel Road to Clayton Road) is anticipated to begin Spring/Summer 2024.

The primary purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the pavement of Treat Blvd which has been long overdue. Thanks to the passage of Measure V, funding now exists to repair this roadway. The rehabilitation method will be a process called full depth reclamation (FDR), where the existing roadway is pulverized (one lane at a time), and the existing asphalt and base soil is mixed with cement and lime, prior to replacement and compaction. This process will greatly increase the strength and useful life of Treat Blvd. Significant delays should be expected throughout construction, as up to two lanes will need to be closed for the FDR process to take place.

The song has been widely labeled as "country rap", a genre that had not often reached the mainstream prior to its release. Dutch record producer YoungKio composed the instrumental and made it available for purchase online in 2018. It features a sample of "34 Ghosts IV" by the American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. The sample was placed behind trap-style Roland TR-808 drums and bass. Lil Nas X purchased the instrumental for US$30 and recorded "Old Town Road" in one day. At the time, he had been living with his sister after dropping out of college; his real-world struggles were an influence on some of the lyrics.

In 2018, Lil Nas X dropped out of college to pursue a music career even though he was discouraged by his parents. He moved in with his sister, spending time promoting his music on the Internet while having just three hours of sleep each night. Lil Nas X found the beat for "Old Town Road" in October 2018 and began writing after his sister told him he had to move out soon.[14] Lil Nas X felt like he was "out of options" and said that his sister's and parents' frustrations with him inspired the song's chorus, "can't nobody tell me nothing". Within a month of writing it, Lil Nas X chose to alter the song's meaning so that the "old town road" would be a symbol of success.[12] Lil Nas X recorded the song on December 2, 2018,[14] at the CinCoYo Recording Studio in Atlanta,[15] and released it the same day on SoundCloud under the title "Old Town Road (I Got the Horses in the Back)".[14][16]

On December 4, 2018, a day after the original version's release, Lil Nas X tweeted that he wanted Cyrus on the song.[22] Lil Nas X knew of Cyrus because of his role on the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana.[23] The country singer Jake Owen was originally approached to co-write and record the first remix of "Old Town Road".[24] The Columbia Records executive, Ron Perry, reached out to Cyrus' wife Tish Cyrus saying that he would love it if Cyrus were to hear "Old Town Road". Cyrus first heard the song over coffee on March 16, 2019, when Tish played it to him.[25] Cyrus explained that he loved the original song the first time he heard it.[26] Cyrus also mentioned that he related to the song the first time he heard it, connecting the "old town road" to the Old Town Bridge in Argillite, Kentucky, that he used to play on as a child.[27] In response to Billboard removing "Old Town Road" from the Hot Country Songs chart, Cyrus tweeted his support for Lil Nas X and noted that the removal put him in the ranks of great outlaws.[28]

A third official remix, titled "Old Town Road (Remix)", was released on July 12, 2019. It retains Cyrus' guest appearance and adds the American rapper Young Thug and the American singer Mason Ramsey. The remix was released in an effort to keep "Old Town Road" at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, as the song was two weeks away from tying for the all-time Hot 100 record held by "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men and "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee; it has since broken that record.[250][251][252] In an interview with Billboard in March 2019, the producer YoungKio said that he would want Young Thug for a remix of "Old Town Road", saying, "I've listened to every single song of his, and I think he's qualified to do this remix. I've listened to Beautiful Thugger Girls, and he has some country vibes on there."[20] Young Thug has been previously credited with bringing country trap into the mainstream with his experimental mixtape, Beautiful Thugger Girls (2017).[11] Lil Nas X called him a pioneer of bridging the gap between country and trap.[12]

State highway agencies have used full road closuresuccessfully on a variety of project types ranging fromfull-depth reconstruction to bridge joint replacementwith guard rail enhancements. The projects examinedduring this research effort had varying characteristicsand reasons for using full road closure, while achievingsimilar positive results. Project personnel interviewedfelt that full road closure was able to improve theroad rehabilitation process, creating efficiencies thatreduced project duration and in some cases overallcosts, while improving safety. A consistent theme, heard during interviews with project personnel, wasthe positive public sentiment that resulted from theuse of full road closure.

The expansion of typical metropolitan peak-periodcongestion levels from 2-3 hours daily in the early1980s to 5-6 hours daily today is resulting in a smallerwindow of opportunity for contractors to performroadwork without impacting peak period traffic flow. Results from a survey, taken in 2000 and referencedin the Federal Highway Administration report MovingAhead, indicate that more than 60 percent of thosesurveyed were dissatisfied with the speed of repairand traffic congestion related to work zones. (1)Congestion related to work zones can result inincreased travel times, environmental impacts, workerhealth and safety risks, and traveler dissatisfaction.According to the results of a recently released study, work zones account for at least 24 percent ofnon-recurring delays on freeways. (2) More than 40,000people per year are injured as a result of motor vehiclecrashes in work zones. (3) In the last decade more than8,000 fatalities have been reported in work zones. Some may be surprised to discover that more than 80percent of work zone fatalities are motorists travelingthrough the work zone. e24fc04721
