Originally conceived by Maj Sjwall and Per Wahl in the 1965 novel Rosanna, Martin Beck has evolved to become a detective for the 21st century. His character first migrated from the books to the small screen in 1997, and with season 10 we might see a Beck from the new generation come to the fore.

With such a long history behind it, to keep running the series has had to develop new characters along the way. Martin Beck is still played by Peter Haber, but the other main character from the original novels, Gunvald Larsson (Mikael Persbrandt), parted company with the programme in 2016. His replacement, Steinar Hovland (Kristofer Hivju) from Norway, has worked with the team on and off since series six, competing for the job with former intelligence agent Alex Beijer in season seven and coming into conflict with risk taker Josef Eriksson in series eight.

The existence of winter seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and its milder population variants implies that depression estimates in a given population may tend to be higher in winter than at other times of the year. The aim of this study was therefore to test whether depression prevalence estimates based on the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) are systematically moderated by season of administration. Existing information from the screening phase of a multicentre investigation of depression prevalence provided the data for the study. Repeated cross-sectional BDI data from samples in the United Kingdom (n=1299), Finland (n=1352), Norway (n=2711) and Spain (n=1246) were analysed for month- and season-of-administration effects. Whether data were measured continuously or as a dichotomous variable (BDI cutoff >/=13), there was no evidence of a systematic seasonal pattern in depression estimates across the four sites. No seasonal effects reached statistical significance at any single site, and trends in the association between winter and elevated BDI scores were positive in two sites (UK and Norway) and negative in two (Finland and Spain). Although limited by a post hoc analysis of existing data, this study provides the strongest evidence to date that season of administration is not a moderator of depression prevalence as estimated by the BDI.

After one redshirt season, Ladd McConkey proved what he could do in 2021. He finished third on the team in receiving by the end of the year. But by the Florida game that season, he was the leading wide receiver on the team after not being selected to travel with the team during his true freshman season.

Guinevere Beck, better known as simply Beck, is a main character in the first season of Netflix's You, serving as the titular love interest. She is portrayed by Elizabeth Lail. Beck is a young writer and college student who becomes the romantic interest of Joe Goldberg, the obsessive, stalker protagonist of the series.

Throughout the first season, Beck becomes involved in a relationship with Joe, without being aware of his obsessive and dangerous nature. The story revolves around Joe's point of view and, thus, the viewer follows events from his perspective, including his dark actions to control Beck's life. Beck is portrayed as a complex character with her own insecurities and literary aspirations, but she becomes the victim of Joe's unhealthy obsessions.

In the second season, Beck appears as a hallucination. Joe catches a glimpse of her on the other side of the road before a car comes and she disappears. Later on in the apartment after arguing with Love, Joe sees her a second time, as she complains about why their relationship went wrong. Beck makes her final appearance inside the glass cage after Joe kills Jasper, where she uncovers her scarf to reveal the marks Joe left while strangling her.

Additionally, Beck has witnessed 11 of his players going on to sign MLB contracts, most notably Dee Strange-Gordon. In his final season at Southeastern, Beck witnessed Chris Mattison, his NAIA All-America Honorable Mention first baseman, get drafted in the 16th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. More than 20 other players have gone on to sign other free agent or independent league contracts.

The Cubs signed former Giants closer Rod Beck to a one year, $4 million deal entering the 1998 season. "Shooter" rewarded the Cubs in a big way, saving 51 games that season, including the one-game playoff in game 163 with his former Giants' squad to take the wild card spot in the playoffs (pay no attention the three game sweep at the hands of the Braves). Beck was great that season, right? Well, this is where "stat heads" and the "eye test" might butt heads. Beck notched the 51 saves, which sounds like an amazing season. But he also blew seven saves. So his conversion rate was solid, but not spectacular. His FIP was 3.72 and he was worth "just" 1.0 WAR. So the "stat heads" would say Beck pitched well, but his season was largely the result of opportunity.

The fantastic 1998 season was followed by a season where Beck battled a back injury and was largely ineffective before eventually being dealt to the Red Sox. Beck converted just 7 of 11 save chances, with a FIP of 5.73 and a value of -0.3 WAR. He was clearly not the same guy after a heavy workload the season before.

Beck played for four teams over 13 big league seasons, pitching in 704 games while collecting 286 saves. His last season was with the Padres in 2004. This was all after a stint where he rejoined the Cubs' organization, pitching in Iowa in 2003 before joining the Padres.

Earlier this season it was hardly on the radar, but as Beck played well and displayed his arm talent, the NFL buzz picked up. He and his family did seriously consider it, but in the end, it seemed to come down to two main factors.

Through his first six games as Georgia's starting quarterback, the redshirt junior has been beyond brilliant in guiding the Bulldogs to an undefeated record and maintaining the team's preseason No. 1 ranking. Beck has completed 144 of 196 passes (73.5%) for 1,886 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Also overseeing the quarterback room, Beck helped develop Diego Pavia into a candidate who received Heisman Trophy votes. In his first season as an Aggie, Pavia led the Aggies in both passing and rushing, while adding 19 touchdowns (13 pass, six rush).

With Beck leading the way, the Gorillas generated three seasons of double-digit wins, the most memorable of those coming in 2011 when they went 13-1 and claimed the NCAA Division II National Championship. The Gorillas' national title that season came exactly 20 years after their last in 1991 - a season in which Beck patrolled the sidelines as the Gorillas' inside linebackers coach under head coach Jerry Kill.

The 2011 campaign featured a seven-game improvement from 2010 as well as the program's 13th MIAA regular-season title during Beck's tenure affiliated with the team. For his efforts, Beck hauled in a multitude of individual coaching awards including the Liberty Mutual NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, the Don Hansen Football Committee Coach of the Year, the FieldTurf Coach of the Year and the first of his two MIAA Coach of the Year laurels.

After not serving in a coaching capacity in the 2020 season, Beck took on the role of offensive analyst for TCU at the start of the 2021 season. With Beck on their side, the Horned Frogs ranked 37th among all FBS programs in total offense, racking up 435.8 yards per game and claimed a 30-28 victory over 12th-ranked Baylor on Nov. 6.

"My friends and family have helped put me in a situation to have options for my future," Beck said in a statement. "However, the NFL can wait one more year. I am returning to UGA for my senior season."

Beck generated legitimate NFL interest late in the season, throwing for at least 300 yards in five different SEC contests while leading Georgia to a third-straight 12-0 regular season. He started every game for the Bulldogs this season, stepping in for two-time national champion and 2023 Heisman Trophy finalist Stetson Bennett and finished the regular season and SEC Championship Game with 289 completions for 3,738 yards and 22 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He also rushed for 127 yards and four touchdowns.

Beck signed with the Bulldogs in 2020 as a four-star prospect out of Jacksonville, Florida. He played in just 12 games over his first three seasons with the program while serving as a backup to Bennett but decided to stick around and wait his turn to run the offense.

Those two have jostled for position atop the quarterback board since before the 2023 season even began, and nothing this year changed that. LSU's Jayden Daniels had a breakout year that saw him win the Heisman Trophy, and he's been consistently mocked as a top-10 pick.
