This page has been setup by a resident of Beck Crescent to try and improve the internet speeds in our area.
The Internet is more important than ever during the lockdown, where lack of access exposes other inequalities in Internet use and skills.¹
We have one of slowest internet connections in our loughborough area with an average connection speed of 20Mb/s. This is due to no fibre being ran to the estate and having to rely on a long stretch of copper from the local box to each house.
Our local exchange, Loughborough - (EMLGHBO), is enabled for Openreach FTTP and should be able to provide a better speed however the broadband suppliers need some additional convincing that it is financially worth their while to upgrade the connection as currently private telecom companies such as BT have few financial incentives to invest in retrofitting fibre.²
Due to this I would like to petition the main broadband suppliers (BT, Sky, Virgin) to improve the standard internet connection on Beck Crescent by providing Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) giving us better bandwidth, faster speeds, and increase reliability.
Each year the average bandwidth use per household increase by over 40% ! and the copper line that supplies our estate can only handle so much traffic.
A gradual increase in crosstalk will degrade the line for everyone else on the estate, unfortunately there is no current way to know who will be affected however the only thing that is certain is reduced speeds from crosstalk will become more significant as the penetration of fibre broadband increases throughout the area.
The following contact information box is to collect vital information to form a community partnership. This information will be passed to openreach but no one else. Your details will not be used for any other purpose and will be stored securely and deleted at the end of the campaign.
Thank you.
