April 3, 2020 - Update (Click to expand)

Dear Family and Friends of Beacon Hill Villa Residents:

I am writing you to provide an update on the Covid-19 Pandemic and how it has impacted life at Beacon Hill Villa.

We continue to work very hard to ensure we follow all of the recommendations and guidelines given by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and the Chief Medical Health Officer (MHO) for Island Health, Dr. Richard Stanwick. Public Health Officials in British Columbia have led the way with some of the most proactive measures to prevent the spread of this virus, and we fully support these measures.

Here is a summary of some of the more significant changes and actions we have taken to protect residents and staff:

· Limited staff mobility – Staff are not permitted to work at multiple healthcare sites. We have implemented this at Beacon Hill Villa. We have managed to do this while maintaining staff levels (thankfully, many of our dedicated, long-time staff have agreed to increase their hours).

· Screening of all staff at a single entrance – We are doing symptom checks and temperature checks for staff at a single entrance prior to their entering the building.

· Visitor restrictions – Visitors are only permitted in exceptional circumstances, where a safety plan is in place with MHO approval

· Limited patient mobility – Facility transfers and admissions from community into Long Term Care is only permitted with special MHO approval

· Precautions for residents returning from hospital – Any residents returning from hospital will be asked to isolate for 14 days in their room. We will provide tray meal service and all required care to these residents.

· Policy changes regarding social leaves/temporary absences – Please review the attachment from Island Health. This applies to families who may wish to care for their loved ones in their own homes during this pandemic.

· Physical distancing in dining rooms and lounge areas is being promoted, but at this time the dining room and lounges remain open and our menu has not changed (We are looking forward to our Easter special)

· Residents are monitored with increased frequency for symptoms and will be a priority if testing is required

· An “Outbreak” will be declared with only one resident exhibiting symptoms. This will trigger a significant increase in support and oversight from the Island Health Communicable Disease Program.

While we understand that some of these measures have made it challenging to stay connected with your loved one, we thank you for understanding as we continue to dedicate all of our efforts to the safety and well-being of residents here at Beacon Hill Villa.

Thank you again for trusting us with the care of your loved one. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

March 13, 2020 - Announcement (Click to expand)

Dear Families and Friends of Beacon Hill Villa:

The purpose of this email is to provide an update about the Covid-19 pandemic.

At Beacon Hill Villa we have been working hard to implement Infection Prevention and Control best practices. We are working with our partners and following direction given by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control, the BC Provincial Health Officer, and the Vancouver Island Health Authority. We are refining our Emergency Pandemic Preparedness Plan as new information becomes available.

While we do not currently have Outbreak Restrictions imposed at our location, we would like you to be aware of the following restrictions imposed on visitors to Beacon Hill Villa:

- Visitors must review the screening questions posted at the entrances and follow the guidelines on the poster (Poster attached for reference)

- Visitors are strongly discouraged from entering the building if they have symptoms of respiratory infection or fever or have travelled internationally in the last 14 days

- Visitors should limit their visits to their loved one and ensure they are frequently washing hands or using hand sanitizer

Until we are directed otherwise, our Basic Recreation and Meal Services will continue as scheduled, provided we can ensure the safety of our Residents. We have cancelled all “General Tours” until further notice and we will not be holding our scheduled “Open House”.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time and we thank you for the trust you are placing in us to care for your loved one.

If you would like additional information, I would encourage you to visit the BCCDC website:
