The Choir Project was born in May 2010. It began as an offshoot of the international Complaints Choir, a project initiated by two Finnish artists with the aim of “transforming the huge energy people put into complaining into something else.” In Cairo, Egypt, 25 young men and women — many of whom had no previous experience in music, theater, or performance — responded to a call for participants. They came from a diverse range of backgrounds, but had one thing in common: the urge to actively express their views on the current state of affairs. An intensive six-day workshop ensued, which yielded so much more than complaints: from personal reflections to public concerns, biting humor to heartfelt confessions, cultural specifics to issues of universal significance — all set to song. A process of real connection and exchange took place between the participants. The resulting fifteen-minute performance by the Cairo Complaints Choir met with great success, drawing an enthusiastic audience of several hundred people and widespread coverage in the local media.Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/thechoirprojectegypt
