Genre : Folk , Jazz , Persian and Latin
- from the Swedish folk music group “Alla Fagra” Born in Sweden 1981. He studied the bouzouki at Malmo conservatory of music. He is a part of several folk music bands as: Alla Fagra and Jidder.
Gabriel Hermansson (oud, guitar, vocals)
Born in Baghdad 1980 and was raised up in both Baghdad and Cairo. Studied the classical western violin in Music & ballet school in Baghdad. She immigrated to Sweden year 2002 and since then she’ve been working with music, theater, children theater and the Swedish national radio (Sveriges radio). She also holds courses in Swedish language for immigrants and asylum seekers in Sweden at Folkuniversitetet. “I often think of life, people I’ve met, wars I’ve survived and different circumstances with a great deal of irony. They all inspire me and i can’t help hearing a sound track in my head for each one of them” .
Nadin Al khalidi (vocals, saz, guitar)
ABOUT
Tarabband is led by the charismatic singer and Saz player Nadin Al khalidi since 2008. Nadin has her roots in both Cairo and Baghdad and now settled in Malmö, Sweden. In Tarabband she’s supported by another five musicians from Malmö, together creating “Tarab”. Tarab, in Arabic, stands for deep and passionate connection between the musicians and the audience.Tarabband picks out the “golden crown” from the Arabic music treasures. Their repertoire contains both traditional Arabic songs as well as the group’s own unique compositions,
both filled with deep TARAB!

Dan Svensson (percussion, flute, vocals) - from the Swedish folk music group “Alla Fagra”
Filip Runesson (violin)
- from the “Filip Runesson Ensemble” and Balkan group “Östblocket” “I love playing all kinds and styles of music on the Violin, and I got my music education at Malmo music high school. Apart from Tarabband, I play in many different bands. Östblocket, Swing al Dente, Brun Utan Sol, and my own band, Filip Runesson Ensemble. I also frequently work as a studio musician, arranger and composer.”
Romain Coutama (bass) - from the Jazz ensemble “Coutama” He was born and raised up in Paris with roots from Martinique. In Paris he studied music at IACP (Institut for Artistic and Cultural Perception), and have been engaged in different ensembles as: Jean-Pierre Josephine Group, Sofi Hellborg Gang , and together with the Morroccan composer: Ali Merguache. He moved to Sweden year 2000, and since then he’ve been playing the Bass in different groups and projects such as: “World Mix Orchestra” and for the last 4 years with TARABBAND. He’ve been composing my own music through the years, an own musical journey that resulted in the Jazz ensemble: “Coutama”.
Born 1965 and he comes from the roots of Flamenco. ”Someone told me – Music is groove and getting together.. – My love of music paved my way through the years to new music and traditions, lots of tours, and studio visits all over the Scandinavia.” Counterpoint is an expression which comes from the classical music, and you can also find it in folk and root music. It’s the key for interaction, playfulness, and balance between music, musicians, melody, dancers, and moves when all are in a meeting with audience. And in order to pass forward this mysterious energy to the audience, you need discipline and an honest participation in this explosive musical moment (no note sheets of course, because i am “illiterate” and graduated from: “The street music high school. Flamenco is energy! It’s this precious and magical flavor. And it’s my first school. Aire, Cojones y compas…Olé!”.
