Benjamin DK Wood, PhD

Ben is a the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning at Heifer International. He mainly works on monitoring and evaluating Heifer projects. He also quality assures and conducts research on Heifer activities, along with overseeing knowledge management of Heifer-related literature. In addition to these core responsibilities, Ben is establishing Heifer more generally in the evaluation space. He recently transitioned from 3ie, where he worked for over 6 years.

Benjamin's interest in development stems from years of international travel. He honed his research skills during short-term consultancies with the World Bank and the International Food Policy Research Institute in Malawi in conjunction with his dissertation research.

Benjamin holds a PhD in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His dissertation examined the effects of food price increases on health in Malawi and on poverty in Mexico. His research interests include food insecurity and health.
