Meet with a

Burrell Student Mentor!

How to book a meeting with a Mentor!

(Make sure your time zone is correct.)

We are here for you!

Why do we mentor?

"Going through second year, I felt like I did not have an older mentor I could turn to so I had to figure out a lot on my own. I feel like being able to pass on the knowledge I gathered onto someone else would be rewarding and fulfilling. The board prep process and decisions that come along with it can cause a lot of unnecessary stress, and I would like to help someone avoid those stressors if possible."
- Lucas Ciulla3rd Year Mentor
"I enjoy being a resource and support to people, especially those following me in the same career path. Mentorship makes me a better person and provider, gives me insights into current problems and the status of previously identified problems, and creates better relations between colleagues."
- Victoria Harrison3rd Year Mentor
"So far in my education, I have received some of the most helpful advice for upperclassmen. They are the ones who have experienced what I am going through most recently and have the best understanding and wisdom passed down from students above them. I think that the school provides a lot of useful information, but sometimes it's better to hear from someone who has the same goals and knows the time and financial restrictions that can arise when choosing particular study options or elective/audition rotations. Medical school is stressful and confusing enough so I would like to help make another student's life just a little easier if possible."
- Kristine Oines3rd Year Mentor
"I've always been passionate about sharing my experiences on the path toward and through medical school. Third and fourth year are VERY different from first and second year, and I think it's important for students to know what the back half of medical school looks like. We only see beyond the horizon by standing on the shoulders of the people that came before us."
- John Murin4th Year Mentor

What is the Burrell COM Mentoring Program?

Burrell SGA is piloting a mentorship program for 3rd and 4th year students to participate in as mentors for thee class of 2025 and 2026 students. This is a proposed extension of the Big-Little program, with students from every RAC being able to participate via zoom.

This mentoring program will encourage 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students to connect with upperclassmen on a personal level, helping build strong, trusting relationships that motivate and guide toward future goals.

Sharing your unique medical school experience could be the catalyst for our peers to persevere and continue striving for their goals as future physicians.

For the pilot program, only current 3rd and 4th year students will be able to participate as mentors, and current 2nd and 3rd year students will be able to book meetings as mentees.
