This passage explains that it is shameful for a prince, who is supposed to be an example of virtue and a master at chess, to be known as a dice player.
Ces princes doivent estre exemple de honneur et de bonne vie et se doivent employer en bienfaisance pour estre ains à leurs subjets et faire sens blasement.
Et c’est chose honteuse quant ung prince qui doit être capitaine des eschez est appelé joueur de dez.
Et ung prince doit scavoir que par le jeu de dez ou par semblable il ne peut riens justement acquerir mais est tout ce quil a par tel moyen au dampnement de sõ ame.
These princes must be examples of honor and good morality, and they must devote themselves to acts of charity so as to be models for their subjects and act without reproach.
And it is a shameful thing when a prince, who ought to be the captain at chess, is called a dice player.
A prince must know that through dice games or the like he can gain nothing justly, and that whatever he obtains by such means is to the damnation of his soul.
