The construction of the Borobudur Buddhist temple began around the year 800. The period between 760 and 830 marks the peak of the Sailendra dynasty in Central Java, while it was under the influence of the Srivijaya Empire. The construction reportedly lasted 75 years and was completed under the reign of Samaratungga in 825.
