Book of Sui 隋書

On the first day of the first month (the New Year), they [the Proto-Japanese people] never fail to indulge in archery and wine-drinking. Otherwise, their festivals are largely similar to those of China. They enjoy games of strategy (Go), games of chance (dice), woshuo, and chupu (another ancient dice game).
