Orkney-born fiddler Louise Bichan and Indiana mandolinist Ethan Setiawan have been here before, performing with Corner House — a quartet of whiz-kid Berklee School of Music grads who put on a bang-up show. They return to us now as the duo, Hildaland.
In the folklore of the Orkney Islands, Hildaland is a magical, mystical, invisible island where the Finfolk — a race of powerful, shapeshifting sea beings — spend the summer months. Legend has it that this mythical land reveals itself only to those willing to look beyond surface appearances.
Louise and Ethan take us there on a journey steeped in the fiddle traditions of their respective sides of the Atlantic. The path wends through Scottish, old-time, and Swedish-inspired music intertwined with contemporary compositions.
Prepare to be transported.
