Nashville-based singer-songwriter Shawn Byrne comes to us via the Concerts In Your Home network — the connecting point for a large and very talented stable of regional and national touring artists for whom house concerts are a big part of their musical lives. Shawn will be our first artist "from away," and we're hoping to see a nice turnout for this first-of-its-kind event!
As a guitarist, Shawn has toured and played with Rodney Atkins, Mark Collie, Ashton Shepherd and Kelleigh Bannen to name just a few. As a vocalist, he's worked on demo sessions for Mark Knopfler, Mary Gauthier, Gary Louris and Kristen Hall under the guidance of Grammy winning producer Nathan Chapman. Shawn's talents as a writer have gotten attention from publishers and major artists alike, garnering Shawn a SESAC writer's award and around 20 cuts to his name.
Shawn's album, Pine Trees, Cheap Wine, and the Moon, is an eclectic mix of country-infused styles like rockers "The Hardest Fall" and "Boots," to the bluegrass romp "The High Notes," recorded with Grammy nominated and multi-IBMA award winners The Grascals.
Nashville Scene has this to say about his album, But I Digress…
"Shawn Byrne takes an expansive view on the possibilities of roots music. On his new album, But I Digress, he shifts with self-assured grace from electric roots-rock and blues to acoustic tunes that draw on everything from Celtic airs to Cab Calloway-style vaudevillian swing. A New Englander who’s been in Nashville for a few years, he’s built a rep as a multi-threat talent: his clear low tenor has been used on country demos of songs written by Mary Gauthier, Kristin Hall, Mark Knopfler and Gary Louris, while his guitar has made him a valuable sideman (he recently toured Europe with Kevin Montgomery) and his songwriting earned him the lead-off cut on the last year’s Duhks album, Migrations. On But I Digress, his band includes bassist Tim Marks, drummer Johnny Richardson, organist Michael Webb and fiddlers Casey Driessen and the Greencards’ Eamon McLaughlin.—MICHAEL McCALL
