Deborah Silverstein and Will Brown have been on our radar for a while now, and we're delighted to have the opportunity to showcase both of them on one sure-to-be-memorable evening. Deborah and Will are both steeped in the traditional folk scene, but each puts a very personal stamp on it. Have a listen Deborah's original tune Draglines from her album Around The Next Bend — and Will's haunting interpretation of the Utah Philips' song, Going Away (accompanied by Cindy Kallet & Grey Larsen). It's going to be a beautiful evening.
…is an evocative singer-songwriter with a witty edge. Her original music is rooted in mountain melody, ballads, blues and jazz. She has been a presence in the Boston area acoustic music scene since the mid-70‘s when she was a founding member of New Harmony Sisterhood Band. Their album, “And Ain’t I A Woman,” is now part of the Smithsonian Folklife Collection. Her first solo album, “Around the Next Bend,” was nominated for Best Folk Album of the Year in the Boston Music Awards. She performs solo as well as with her back-up Band of Erics. Her latest record, “Precious Time,” was released in the spring of 2016.
“With great ease and a life-giving simplicity, she explores the hardest things, rounding on her subject, focused and joyous, never backing away. And we are uplifted and connected.” — Geoff Bartley
…played around campfires in the 60’s, in classrooms in the 70’s, and with some of Maine’s best folk and traditional musicians since the early 80’s. Will says this of himself: “I’m not a songwriter but I do enjoy working up original arrangements of other folks' creations and have always enjoyed playing the finger style guitar. I thank folks like Doc Watson and Chet Atkins for leaving their fingerprints to follow. My only claim to fame is having a track included on the 2009 Grammy nominated compilation of Utah Phillips’ songs: Singing Through The Hard Times.”
"Good though!" — Utah Phillips
