Generally, we host just one Common House Concert per month. But every once in a while a golden opportunity comes along that you just can't say "No" to!
Little Pearl — David Pulkingham
The Hours — Shannon Brackett
David Pulkingham is a guitarist, songwriter, producer and teacher. He has been a mainstay of the thriving music scene in Austin, TX, for the last twenty-five years. David currently tours with Patty Griffin and has played with her for the past 8 years. He co-wrote two songs on her recent Grammy-winning eponymous album.
His mastery of numerous styles has lead him to share the stage and record with many artists around the world. Famed David Bowie producer, Tony Visconti calls David " the complete guitarist, one of the best I have ever worked with."
In addition to his extensive touring work with Alejandro Escovedo, Carrie Rodriguez, Sara Watkins and Patty Griffin, David has performed with both the Lampedusa and Lantern tours to benefit refugee services. On these performances he served as an accompanist for the likes of Robert Plant, EmmyLou Harris, Steve Earle, Joan Baez, Jackson Browne, Buddy Miller, Lucinda Williams and Lila Downs.
Shannon Brackett is a singer-songwriter currently based in Austin Texas.
Born and raised in Oklahoma, she has been part of the Los Angeles and Austin music community for many years. She calls the road her home, her ukelele and her guitar riding shotgun on her travels. She finds tuneful amusement in mountains, open roads, skyscrapers, oceans, and tall trees. Shannon's songs are seasoned with highways, heartaches, and the beautiful moments in between.
“For eleven years David Pulkingham and I played guitar together. We played venues ranging in scope from Carnegie Hall to backyard parties. We played all over the world and there was never one occasion in which David was not fully prepared and in the moment. What David gave to my music was not only his vast talent as a guitarist but a strong sense of melody and the ability to improvise and create in the moment. I have played with many great guitarists and David stands out as one of the finest.”
ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO
“When you hear David Pulkingham play a few things happen. One thing is that you feel the urge to run home and practice whatever it is you thought you were kind of good at until you are better at it. It’s the effect of the master craftsman… you are amazed by the ability. And he makes it actually look easy, because it’s moving and emotional – and you know it ain’t. He scares me, amazes me, moves me to tears. Doesn’t get better in my book.”
