Renting a place

It is very normal to be anxious about finding a place upon arrival. But in Canada, Landlords will make lease/contract only with the persons who will occupy the rental unit. So you will not be able to rent a room/home/apartment if you are not in Canada. Typically here is the process:

• Right after landing, you could rent any hotel or Airbnb for short-term rental

• Use the following web/tools to look for the long-term rental where you have to sign a long-term lease which is typically 1 years term:

Local Phone Number

You should get a Local Phone number as soon as possible since it will be the primary medium to contact you. You can get it from any local store or mall. Please check ID requirements to get a new phone service.

Social Insurance Number

Bank Account

Bank Account will play a very important role in your Canadian Lifestyle. A bank statement with an address will be very useful when you will apply for your Healthcare card or Provincial ID card. It can be a good idea to set up an appointment with a local bank before your arrival. Most of the time, the bank may need 5-10 business days to book an appointment to open a new account.
