Write words on a whiteboard, "popping" around the board 5 times correct each word

Write words on an index card using a highlighter and have him or her trace over what you wrote. Then have him or her "pop it" around the whiteboard 5 times each.
Take a picture walk.
Ask child about things that make them dirty.
Focus strategy: Eagle eye. Show poster (click link) and remind child that when they get stuck, look at the words to help them. Also remind child to read with their finger.

Have child make the words with magnet letters
Take one of the letters away, ask them what is missing
Mix up the letters and have them put it back together
Have child dictate a sentence as you write it. Then have child read it as they point to each word
Practice color words- match cards. Cut index cards in half. Color one half and write the color on the other half. Mix the cards up. Let child match the cards up correctly.
