Write words on a whiteboard, "popping" around the board 5 times correct each word
OR Write words using finger in sand, salt, flour, etc.
Pull out alphabet chart and find the s. Go over s sound. Write 3-5 words that start with s.
On the alphabet chart, find the a. Say the different sounds a can make (long and short) [apple, ask, all, acorn, bake, shape]
Introduce "sh" sound. point to the chunk and say "sh." let him or her watch your mouth while you make the sound. Sh is a hard sound to learn. Make a short list of 3-5 words that start with sh. (shape, short, she, shorts, shirt)
Take a picture walk through the book
Find the word "shape" in book and put finger on it.
Show picture cards of different shapes and have him or her name the shape before reading.
Focus strategy: Eagle eye. Show poster (click link) and remind him or her that when he or she gets stuck, look at the picture to help him or her. Also remind him or her to read with his or her finger.
