Project Overview: A passion project made with 2 other developer friends. Bamboo is a 2D Top-Down Rogue-like Strategy Card game that features a lone warrior on their quest for vengeance in a dense and cursed Bamboo forest. It's Art style consists of a painterly pixel art that is 3/4ths Top Down.
As the only artist on this team, I worked on concepting, managing and creating all aspects of art on this project. Yet I'd still like to highlight specific roles I took on
Art Director - Defined the art style (that supports the gameplay design), created a detailed art bible and maintained the art style when creating assets
Concept Artist - Created Moodboards, sketches and detailed concept pages
Character/Enemy Artist - Designed Characters, created pixel-art sprites (both portrait and gameplay sprite) and animated attacks/expressions.
Environment Artist - Created title sprites and other environment pixel art illustrations
UI Artist - Created Hud UI, Designed Card Layouts and assisted in Implementation

Main Character Outfit Moodboard and Ideas
Our Main Character is inspired by East Asian culture, has a simple outfit, dark hair, a simple but sharp sword and has no official gender (perhaps gender fluid). To help the player be more immersed into the narrative and game, the gender is up to the player to interpret as they please.
Excerpt from the GDD: “The lone warrior is inspired by an early ninja or unarmored samurai but is also specifically distanced from actually being identified as either one of those things.”

Our first enemy is the Wisp, a simple enemy that carried the will of the forest. It is dispersed when its magic is broken and has potential for it to become more powerful creature in the later game.
