Am a huge fan of battlefield games and the idea of having a mobile version was always a thing i wished for and while I got to play the mobile version it unfortunately didn't last long enough. I was wondering if there's alternatives/clones (not talking about games like cod/PUBG) to play on the go while am out.

The studio has released two mobile first-person shooters in its Midnight Star series and then started a new chapter as part of Electronic Arts. After Industrial Toys was closed, Seropian launched his own podcast and is now formulating some plans for his future ventures.

"It is for this reason," the statement continued, "after months of working with our development partner [PUBG Mobile developer Lightspeed and Quantum Studios], that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game."

News of Battlefield Mobile's cancellation was accompanied by confirmation that its developer, Industrial Toys - which was acquired by EA in 2018 - will shut down. Industrial Toys was founded by Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian in 2012, and created a number of mobile-focused shooters, including Midnight Star, prior to EA's purchase. The studio was revealed to be working on Battlefield Mobile in 2022. EA has not yet said how many people will lose their jobs as a result of its decision to close Industrial Toys.

Speaking to Mobilegamer.biz, Lead Developer Alex Seropian explained how the pretty disastrous reception of Battlefield 2042 took down its mobile sibling with it. Considering Seropian was a co-founder of ex-Halo developer Bungie, he's been around the block a few times and seen a few clangers.

Promising that Battlefield was a "bespoke experience for mobile" instead of another generic version of slapping "mobile" on a big IP, Seropian suggests we missed out on something big. We'll never know, and while lessons have been learned after 2042, EA is full steam ahead on the next chapter...oh, hooray.

In the Second World War, there was a flowering of the battlefield surgery pioneered in the Spanish Civil War. There were small, mobile surgical units in all the theatres of the War, working close behind the fighting and deployed flexibly according to the nature of the conflict. With equipment transported by truck, jeep or mule, they operated in tents, bunkers and requisitioned buildings and carried out abdominal, thoracic, head and neck, and limb surgery. Their role was to save life and to ensure that wounded soldiers were stable for casualty evacuation back down the line to a base hospital. There is a handful of memoirs by British doctors who worked in these units and they make enthralling reading. Casualty evacuation by air replaced the use of mobile surgical units in later wars, throwing into doubt their future relevance in the management of battle wounds. But recent re-evaluations by military planners suggest that their mobility still gives them a place, so the wartime memoirs may have more value than simply as war stories.

In February this year, Electronic Arts announced that it ceased the development of Battlefield Mobile citing the evolution of the industry as the reason for this decision. Along with this announcement, it was reported that the choice to halt the development of Battlefield Mobile led to the closure of EA's mobile studio, Industrial Toys, which was responsible for the game.

Founded in 2012 by Alex Seropian, one of the co-founders of Bungie, Industrial Toys specialized in the development of mobile-oriented shooters such as Midnight Star. Following their acquisition by EA, it was unveiled in 2022 that the studio had been entrusted with the development of Battlefield Mobile.

He further noted that Industrial Toys' approach to creating games was different from modern industry trends. According to him, in today's gaming landscape, there is a prevalent trend of treating major mobile games based on established IPs as extensions of the franchise. With this approach, game companies aim to create a consistent experience across multiple platforms, treating mobile as just another platform.

In contrast, Industrial Toys took the opposite approach, focusing on developing a unique and tailored experience specifically for mobile devices as it recognized that the way people use mobile devices and engage with games differs from other platforms.

Also on that day the Ukrainian mobile operators and Ukrtelecom made the co-ordinated decision not to suspend any account in the event that any subscriber ran out of credit. This decision meant that everyone could stay in contact, even if they were in a position or situation where they could not obtain any additional credit (due to mobilisation to the army, unable to buy credit in a shop, or any other disruption). This decision was prompted by a request from the SSSCIP (State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine), also known as the DSSZZI, who are the technical security and intelligence service of Ukraine.

Finally, and most impactful from a security standpoint, on the night of the 24th/25th of February, all 3 main Ukrainian mobile operators, with the decision of the NKRZI, suspended all inbound roamers from Russia and Belarus. This was a profound security move, and unprecedented in that no country in the world has ever blocked all mobile phone users from neighbouring countries which with it had previous roaming agreements. Immediately, mobile subscribers from Russian and Belarusian mobile networks could not roam onto and use the Ukrainian networks. At a stroke this action wiped out a backup communications system for the Russian invasion forces. Also, at a cybersecurity level, this decision also made the Ukrainian core network attack surface (3G/4G) less vulnerable to known Russian-originated threat actors over the global SS7 and Diameter signaling protocol links.

Next, on the 7th of March, National Roaming was announced with all 3 mobile operators participating, in co-ordination with the SSSCIP and the NKRZI. The stated reason for this was to overcome disconnection from communication in the Kherson and part of the Nikolaev areas. However, the initial actual regions (oblasts) covered many eastern and central areas, and the implementation is then to be rolled out nationwide. This meant that mobile subscribers, for any one Ukrainian mobile network could now use the network for any of the other 2, for Voice and SMS.

It would be remiss not to mention the on-going and heroic efforts of the Ukrainian mobile operator and equipment personnel to keep cell towers and their supporting critical infrastructure, connected and powered up. This has meant that the mobile networks have stayed functional for far longer than would normally be expected, in areas featuring destructive strikes on telecom infrastructure such as underground fibres and cell-towers, as well as power outages.

Battlefield Mobile was going to be an EA Mobile game, but it was being developed by Industrial Toys, the mobile development studio owned by EA. There was collaboration between the existing Battlefield Team and DICE as well as others.

Battlefield Mobile more faithfully replicated Battlefield gameplay on mobile devices compared to the Deathmatch-like multiplayer seen in Battlefield 3: Aftershock and BC2 iOS, featuring combined arms gameplay on larger maps. Gameplay was heavily based off of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, with a focus on infantry and ground vehicle gameplay in destructible environments. Soldiers had regenerating health, and could sprint, crouch, prone, and mantle over objects. Spotting functioned similarly to Battlefield: Bad Company, requiring players to zoom in on an enemy for a short period of time to Spot them.

EA first revealed its plans for a Battlefield mobile game in 2021. The initial plan was to bring the large-scale military FPS to mobile devices, and that it would be a different take from the console/PC version. EA says its pivot was "to best deliver on our vision for the franchise." The company will continue work on its flagship game Battlefield 2042, which was considered a "disappointment" when it launched in 2021.

"At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding," a statement from Respawn reads. "Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game. Although disappointing, we are proud of the game we launched, are grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and are confident that this is the right decision for players."

Fans have been dismayed by the news of both games getting canceled. Given the popularity of the series, the mobile version garnered plenty of hype. Unfortunately, the game will not see the light of day again, but EA has addressed the series' future moving forward.

The gaming giant is looking to strategize new ways to make mobile gaming better and more exciting. Fans can expect EA to aid in developing and publishing a new title similar to the franchise or maybe even a better and more optimized version of the game they were developing before canceling. ff782bc1db
