As a proud Malaysian, I am honour to introduce my batik design to everyone through this competition. Malaysian batik is batik textile art in Malaysia. It is well-known among the east coast of Malaysia which is Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang especially. Not only the tourist will hunt for batik when they come to east coast of Malaysia but even Malaysian who is not from the east coast of Malaysia will hunt for Malaysian batik due to its popular motives which mostly inspired from leaves and flower. The method that is used to make Malaysian Batik is also quite different from the Indonesian Javanese Batik because Malaysian batik is quite larger and simpler.

Satay is a part of southeast Asian food which consists of small pieces of meat,fish or chicken grilled on stick and served with a spicy peanut sauce. Satay is the original inspiration for my batik design, my design started with a hyper realistic drawing of satay that I made on my own. I then, choose a small section of my drawing which consists of a few satay serve on a banana leaf. This is due to the fact it has better potential to be develop further because it contained more lines compared to other section. The chosen portion then go through geometricization and simplify further to reduce it to its basic geometry.

I explore pop art style in colour manipulation for my colour scheme hence the use of bright colour for my design. I choose purple colour because it brings the meaning of luxury and wisdom while the pink colour means love, caring and feminine. I also added the soft pink since batik is more familiar among Malaysian women especially housewives. Besides, by just looking at the design once, I want the audiences to recognise that the design is made by a woman. The principle of my batik design is symmetry because as you can see, it has balance arrangement for each mirrored section. There is also overlapping principle used for this design between the satay meat shape which is oval. The satay sticks are also overlapping with each of them.

Eventhough both male and female wear batik, female is more associated with batik more than male. Male usually only wear batik for any special occasion while some female wear batik almost every day because it is easy and comfortable to wear in tropical climate. I want my design to emits a happy and cheerful mood to the person who use my design. By wearing this batik design, it can change the mood from lazy, tired, or stress to calm and relax when they see the design. Moreover, I want to change our mind set that man cannot wear pink because I can see a lot of people judge a man when he wears pink and purple. Pink and purple is just colours and its does not define their manhood if a man wears it.
