[edited...] According to the brief given, “Aspirana Millennia” is themed to seeks for innovative and unique ideas where architectural elements and principles are fused with batik printing process. Indonesian batik was designated by UNESCO as Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. They are symbolic, decorated with symbols, flora and geometrical shapes to create some intricate patterns. Since we are slowly approaching to the new era, we should always keep our path and working out the clashing between traditional culture with futuristic elements.

In my design, there are combinations of repetitive lines and cone shaped buildings. The repetitive lines are connecting each other from up to down where I get the ideas from staircase structure. They are rhythmic with same inclination but different line weights to create a sense of movement and direction. It also creates a three dimensional illusion. Next, the cone shaped buildings are mingled in between the horizontal lines as to symbolize the fusion of traditional cultures and the youthful millennial as well as the architectural elements. It may seem harmony at the same time there is clash. A gentle reminder to the all of us where culture and backgrounds are the identifications of where and how we have achieved today. It should not be forgotten but to be continuously inherited by us and our future generations.

Batik is a new way to showcase the beauty of the technique through modern designs. There is no limitations and its variations are way beyond your imaginations as batik industry has great potential to be explored. Every single piece of motif is exclusive, it may not as perfect and some computer-printed design patterns, but imperfections are perfections, isn’t it? Batik is undoubtably a beautiful art form with its high market values to be engaged with.
