With the ever-increasing population of the world, the millennials have found themselves competing harshly in a continuously evolving, fast-paced society. Connected digitally at this age among larger communities, we often got caught in the struggle of asserting one’s identity in the heavy competition with one another, ultimately assimilating the digital lifestyle as part of our basic needs. However, this is not a negative outcome, as many advantages has present itself in connecting information, knowledge, and social circle that has brought a form of constant update that the past generation could never done quickly. These connections, even though invites a great deal of competition but also brings about certain happiness and exponential advancement of mankind’s capabilities.
As part of the theme ‘Aspirana Millennia’, which aims to embrace the identity of millennials and the lifestyle that many has been born into. One could say the digitalization of the era may bring harm, some may say it brings good, but it is the embrace of both side that fully identifies who we are as millennials and how digital technology has played a big part in our lives. Newer technologies has become the key in fusing the physical, digital, and biological world, that has impact all disciplines, lifestyle, economy, industries and even what it is to be human, as it revolutionize the world in the so-called 4th Industrial Revolution, the life we millennials currently live in. As adaptation will always be part of survival, we cannot be left out in this ever-changing world, never perfect but adaptable enough to see its fruition of perseverance in surviving, making modern technology almost becoming a basic need for most.
Needless to say, identity still plays a big role in the roots of what humans are. While the truth remains that our traditional and natural ways will always be hardwired within us, some completely hidden in the new modern lifestyles, one can fully appreciate this millennials identity in embracing both sides of our lives. Modern and traditional, digital and natural biology. It takes a balance between the two, and a seamless assimilation that creates the best qualities of a millennials.
As Batik patterns can revolves around folklore, our proposal aims to tell the story and identity of millennials through embracing these very qualities that was spoken of. Inspired by architectural design elements, the design brings an emphasis of our roots, or the delphinium flower that symbolizes spiritual growth and change, through a spiral of lifestyles that seamlessly blend both worlds together with elements heavily involving linework and direction. This representation is our interpretation of the theme ‘Aspirana Millennia’.
