Printed batik is known known for its repetitive designs, positive negative interplay which can go on numerous layouts till infinity. Batik is also synonym to flora fauna and organic interplay of motifs which can be both organic and geometric. In many ways batik is similar to architecture. Architecture and building design are depicted here as the Kuala Lumpur abstracted city skyline – the iconic twin towers, the KL Tower, the Menara Tabung Haji etc which are iconic structures identifiable to many in the context of Kuala Lumpur skyline.

The city skyline are like batik motifs, some are tall some short, some with specific characteristics known only to the designer architect and to the batik designer. Together the skyline act as a unique embodiment combining the individual architectural designs which make up a the whole city. Similarly the batik motif to the batik designer.

When skylines are seen upside down they are the reflections seen in water, glass or mirrored materials. This is again, similar to batik motifs. Batik motifs are mirrored not only at small scale but they can be mirrored at larger scales.

Millenials are a generation of young vibrant energetic groups of people. They are digital and very much into social media and internet. They like to spend their times in malls and in the city centers. Their fashions are no more tailor made and they buy clothes from boutiques with designer brands. They may not like to be living in the villages where internet connection is poor. However at present, batik is still appealing to them especially if they come with vibrant designs and colours

Fabrics to them ought to be unlike the traditional ones preferred by their parents of the baby boomer generations, yet not totally alien, as batik elements still have the attractive qualities they, the millennials, crave for. Therefore, some batik motifs resembling intertwining curves and leaves is seen together with repetitive and mirrored Kuala Lumpur city skylines.

At the edges of the template a bolt and nut connection designed is placed, seen transformed to be a flowery motif if connected with other template. This abstraction is the the modern architecture connection detail with batik’s flowery motif.
