From this theme, millennia denoting people reaching young adulthood in the early 21st century. I relate the theme to the freedom of speaking, educating and so on. I also made the design that attracted the young generation at the first view so that they would pay attention to traditional batik.

Firstly, I surfed YouTube and Google to get some creative ideas. Eventually, I got the idea of the hornbill’s wings patterns on Facebook. Its body’s pattern attracted me. A bird brings the meaning of freedom because it is a symbolism of freedom in the sky. I started to draw the shape of the bird’s wings.

As drawing a bird in batik might not be unique, thus I combined the principle of orders in architecture such as balance, hierarchy and transformation. In this design, I mainly use triangles and circles.

As you can see, there is a bird shape with no head. I replaced it with a half-shaped leaf. I also added some circle dots on the right side so that it will not be so empty. At the wings’ sides, I overlaid the triangles by using triangles of different colours and sizes so that it looks stylish and layered on the batik. The same idea goes to small circles on both sides.

At the middle and upper tail of the bird’s shape, I applied curved lines. Curved lines are lines that bend and change direction gradually. They can be simply wavy or spiral. Such lines convey the feelings of comfort and ease, as well as sensual quality as they remind us of the human body. I also applied curved lines at the tail of the bird’s shape as embellishments. I put love shapes on the simply wavy onion-shaped to show that everyone loves freedom.

For the outer part, I had transformed the triangle into a bending triangle. I crossed and overlaid the triangle shapes four times from left and right. There are three hexagon stars on the surface. They are made with one upside and downside triangles. The hexagon stars represent distant divine force or energy. Star symbols most commonly represent something good and positive.

I also added two corner ornamental fragments with a curved line. The dots around the birds indicates the young generation should be united to conserve the traditional batik. People should give a try on designing the batik because they will definitely find how joyful it is to make various shapes by using lines.
