Textile industry have been globally rising on chart and unexpectedly batik has been part of it. Batik comes in various techniques and mainly focusing is batik terap or known as block printed batik using copper block. Its has been brought down by generations and was introduced by the Javanese where patterns are imprinted on fabric using the copper block and wax. Discharging techniques will be carried out for the colour soaking process, creating dominant outlines or voids that purposely designed or made to be portrayed that way.

The given theme, “Aspirana Millennia'' is to allow a wide girth of what excites the younger generation. This competition seeks students to explore and innovate ideas and to combine elements of architecture to create what we feel would be a suitable pattern for a batik print on fabric. However, to our understanding the theme also bring meanings of such; ambitious in our own ways and explore the world whilst having an open mind set.

Inspired from the traditional batik called Truntum in Javanese that means blooming of growth and Kawung. The patterns on Truntum are the forms of a star and tiny jasmine flowers as they carried a deep meaning to the Javanese royalty that is an everlasting love that grows or a guide to enter a new life. Whereas Kawung which consists of the cross section of the palm fruits means hope that the wearer would grow into a useful person to the society.

Carrying the portrayal of that onto our design, “Transition” is the name of our batik product. The term trans means opposite while form is the usual appearance of a shape or configuration. We carried the concept onto the design to portray the current influential modern culture, Korean which made changes on our Malaysian culture. There has been many evolution occurring just among the millennials especially in the music industry and fashion trend.

“Transition” is made to show or emphasize the transition of the traditional culture into the modern culture without affecting the spiritual means and the folklores on each ones ancient art. The good impact has led our culture towards the modern era and the community has welcomed a diverse of multiracial culture.

Uses of our iconic national flower as the traditional Malaysian culture and diamond that symbolizes the wisdom or living a meaningful life as the modern influential culture, Korea. Geometric shapes, points and lines and quadrant math technique is used to show the transformation movements. Hence, the final product of half by half flower and diamond forms are combined as one structure.
