This batik design block is inspired from the popular Malay legend Puteri Gunung Ledang. The pattern design depicts some integral storyline involving the love and turmoil between Hang Tuah and Gusti Puteri of Mount Ledang.
By dissecting and extracting the storyline, the pattern illustrates the development of the story. Starting with a point on the corner left, the line gradually ascending diagonally towards the right. Branching out into two lines, the contrast in pattern introduced the titular characters – Hang Tuah and Gusti Puteri, differ in the character and mannerism yet seamlessly coalesce together. Hard edges and transition outwards blends well with the soft and curvilinear rhythm representing the gracefulness of the princess.
Progressing to the centre, the climax of the storyline is broken down into two part, the center depicting the moment the lovebirds reunite for the last time. These can be seen from the two different strokes transition into another mixture of pattern. Conflicts continues and before they went their separate ways, another integral storyline occurred. The promise of the 7 conditions represent through the 7 circular form on each branches highlighting its importance.
