Winter term 2026/2027, University of Regensburg
We will study topological K-theory, an invariant of topological spaces built out of vector bundles. Key properties are homotopy invariance, a form of excision, and Bott periodicity. We end the seminar with some classical applications: determining the precise number of linearly independent vector fields over spheres, and showing that the only real division algebras are the reals, the complex numbers, the quaternions and the octonions.
Tuesday, 16:15-17:45, M009.
The seminar program may be found here.
