If you want high-fidelity, neutral sound isolation for critical listening or vlogging in noisy environments without battery anxiety, choose BASN MTPro 14.5mm; if you need active noise cancellation, wireless freedom, and all-day endurance for travel or casual streaming, choose Edifier W820NB.
• BASN MTPro 14.5mm: Offers stunning planar magnetic detail and passive isolation with zero latency, but requires a wired connection and lacks active noise cancellation. Best for the musician or content creator who prioritizes audio fidelity over convenience.
• Edifier W820NB: Delivers powerful -49dB active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 6.1 connectivity, and an incredible 88-hour battery life, but trades some sonic precision for comfort and features. Best for the commuter, traveler, or vlogger who needs to block out the world and move freely.
The BASN MTPro 14.5mm is not designed for the average listener looking for a simple "plug and play" experience. This is a tool built for those who demand technical perfection from their audio chain. At its heart lies a massive 14.5mm planar diaphragm driver, a component typically found in much more expensive studio monitors. Unlike standard dynamic drivers, this planar setup uses a double-sided magnetic array that allows the diaphragm to move with incredible speed. The result is a sound signature that is highly detailed with an impactful bass response that doesn't muddy the mids. For someone creating content like vlogs, this level of transparency means your voice and background ambience are captured with a clarity that generic earbuds simply cannot match.
The physical build of the MTPro is equally purposeful. These aren't plastic toys; they are CNC-milled from high-quality aluminum alloy. The metallic finish isn't just for looks—it provides a unique texture and durability that feels substantial in the hand. Because these are In-Ear Monitors (IEMs), they rely on a perfect seal to function correctly. The package includes twelve pairs of replacement eartips, ranging from silicone to memory foam, ensuring you can find a fit that blocks out external noise passively. This is crucial for vloggers working in busy streets or cafes where you need to monitor your own recording levels without the distraction of traffic noise.

However, this product comes with significant trade-offs that define who should skip it entirely. First, there is no wireless capability. You are tethered to your device via a detachable MMCX cable. While the included cables are flexible and feature a 4-core single crystal copper construction with coaxial shielding to minimize signal loss, you still have a wire running down your chest. Second, while the passive isolation is excellent due to the ergonomic design and foam tips, there is no Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). If you are in a loud environment where silence is required rather than just reduced noise, the MTPro will struggle compared to an ANC headset. Finally, the lack of a built-in microphone in the earbud itself means you must use the included inline mic cable for calls, which adds another wire to manage. If you value the simplicity of going wireless and the ability to cancel out engine hum or office chatter instantly, this is not the right choice for you.
The Edifier W820NB Plus Gen 2 is engineered for the modern lifestyle where mobility and versatility reign supreme. As an over-ear headphone, it immediately offers a different kind of immersion. The most striking feature here is the hybrid Active Noise Cancellation, which boasts up to -49dB of reduction. This isn't just a minor volume knob turn; it actively generates sound waves to cancel out ambient noise, making it one of the best options for blocking out the chaos of a commute, an airplane cabin, or a bustling coffee shop. For a vlogger who shoots on the go, this feature is invaluable. It allows you to focus on framing your shot and delivering your lines without the constant auditory distraction of wind or crowds.
Connectivity is where the W820NB truly shines. Running on Bluetooth 6.1, it offers a stable, low-latency wireless connection that supports multipoint pairing. You can connect to your phone and laptop simultaneously, switching seamlessly between a video call and music playback. The inclusion of LDAC Hi-Res Audio support ensures that even over the air, you are getting a high-bandwidth signal that preserves the nuances of your music or recording. Furthermore, the battery life is staggering. With up to 88 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, or 49 hours with ANC turned on, you can essentially forget about charging for weeks. The fast-charging feature, which delivers 15 hours of playback from just 15 minutes of charging, is a lifesaver when you are rushing to catch a flight or head to a shoot.
Comfort is another pillar of the W820NB's design. Despite being over-ear, they are surprisingly lightweight at 247 grams. The ear cushions use soft memory foam that adapts to the shape of your ears, preventing the fatigue that often plagues heavier headphones during long sessions. They also fold into a compact size, making them easy to toss into a backpack. However, the trade-off is that they do not offer the same level of intimate, direct-to-eardrum soundstage as the BASN MTPro. The 40mm titanium dynamic drivers provide a rich, full-bodied sound, but they lack the pinpoint accuracy of the planar driver. Additionally, because they rely on software and AI for features like Spatial Sound and Volume Guard, you are dependent on the companion app for customization. If you prefer a purely analog, hardware-controlled experience, the reliance on the EDIFIER ConneX app might feel like an unnecessary layer of complexity.

In my opinion, I would buy the Edifier W820NB for general daily use, especially if you are a vlogger who needs to record outdoors. The combination of active noise cancellation and wireless freedom makes it far more practical for capturing content in unpredictable environments. The ability to block out wind and crowd noise with a button press is a game-changer that wired monitors simply cannot match. However, if your primary goal is professional-grade audio monitoring or you work in a quiet studio where sound purity is the only metric that matters, the BASN MTPro 14.5mm is the superior instrument. But for the vast majority of people looking for a versatile pair of headphones that handle everything from flights to street interviews, the Edifier wins on utility.
The BASN MTPro is designed for indoor and general outdoor use with sweat resistance implied by the material, while the Edifier W820NB is built for daily commuting but does not carry a specific IP water-resistance rating.
No, the BASN MTPro has an impedance of 32 ohms and a sensitivity of 102 dB, meaning they are efficient enough to be driven directly by smartphones, laptops, or portable DACs without needing a dedicated amplifier.
Yes, the Bluetooth 6.1 connection and low-latency support make them suitable for gaming, though for competitive gaming, a wired connection might offer slightly less latency. The spatial sound feature also enhances the immersive experience for single-player games.
The Edifier W820NB features AI-based noise cancellation specifically designed to isolate your voice during calls, reducing ambient noise effectively. The BASN MTPro relies on the inline microphone provided in the box, which offers standard call functionality but lacks the advanced AI processing of the Edifier.
