MR MUMO
Mumo Ikui Mwendwa, affectionately known as 'The Architect,' was born in Machakos County, Kenya, in 1954. His musical journey began in high school, where he discovered a passion for playing the bass and guitar, learning these instruments from peers. Inspired by diverse artists like James Brown, MoTown, Osibisa, Santana, Franco, Tabuley, Bob Marley, and The Beatles, Mumo's creativity flourished as he balanced his studies in architecture with his love for music.
Transitioning from a performer to a producer, he embraced the collaborative nature of music creation, drawing parallels to his architectural background by constructing songs with writers, musicians, and sound engineers. One of his proudest achievements was touring with Tshala Mwana and contributing to a multicultural ensemble of African and West Indian artists.
As music evolves, Mumo strives to merge genres, comment on everyday experiences, and continue developing his unique sound, while recognizing that collaboration and managing egos are vital in the industry.
