Charles Barton knows how to use extra-curricular activities (athletics, band, clubs) to motivate students toward academic success.

Some of his proudest principal moments include leading a team of 70 teachers with award-winning, extracurricular programs to buy into his vision for "having school first," as he calls it.

Like many of our own boys and girls, Charles Barton had little concern for academics as a school boy. It was his unrelenting love for football and Ole Miss compelling him to make his studies a priority.

Athletics became the catalyst for Barton's academics, and Charles has used that same strategy to inspire greatness within his students for over 40 years. He knows that athletics and academics are powerful catalysts capable of working in tandem to move our communities toward a bright future.

After high school Charles was All-State at Northwest Mississippi Community College before playing at Delta State University. Before graduating from college, Barton was recruited as a head football coach at a nearby high school, the beginning of a long and rewarding career in education.
