WELCOME TO BARRINGTON YOUTH BASKETBALL
BYB #Hometown Pride
Barrington Youth Basketball (BYB) is a community-based travel basketball program for Barrington High School. At its core, BYB promotes 3 essential principles:
- Competition- Comparable team play based upon overall team skill level within the DuPage Youth Travel Basketball League (DYTBL).
- Culture- Developing team character and individual sportsmanship while fostering a sense of community pride in playing for Barrington.
- Coaching- Excellent skills development and in-game coaching with direction from the BHS Basketball coaching staff and players to allow for seamless player development and transition throughout the program.
Who can play BYB ?
Barrington Youth Basketball is open to 4th through 8th grade boys who live within the Barrington 220 School District boundaries.
What sort of commitment can I expect with BYB: (IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER)
During the course of the season it is very important that BYB be prioritized above other sports. Attendance to practices and games are crucial to the development of each player's skills and understanding of the team concept and capabilities.
Teams are typically selected by the end of September. Our season usually starts in early October with practices. Games will officially start early to mid November and run through late February to early March.
There will usually be 2 practices each week for 1-1.5 hours each. The first practice of the week will typically be geared toward skills and fundamentals while the second practice will consist of more game preparation with the Head Coach.
Most teams play a combination of the league games within the DuPage Youth Travel Basketball League, and tournaments. Games are mostly on Saturdays and can range from zero games in a weekend to 5+ depending on tournament schedule/league schedule.
Final practice times will be announced once tryouts are completed. Practices will be held on a 7:30-8:30 pm or 8:30-9:30 pm time slot on a Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs combo and held at either Prairie or Station Middle Schools.
Final schedules completed by Tryouts. If you have concerns with conflicts, please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
Typically playing a game(s) each weekend from mid November - early March. Games are scheduled with teams who play at a comparable competitive level. The BYB teams will play in the DYTBL which has Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers. We find it very important that during this key developmental stage of our young athletes' careers, they have an opportunity to compete and grow through in-game experience. These games may include home games (Station MS), away games at neighboring communities and weekend tournaments where a larger variety of competition can be found. Nearly all of our games are within an hour travel time.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts will be held on Saturday, September 21st from 12:30 pm- 1:45 pm for grades 5th & 6th and from 2:00pm-3:15pm for grades 7th & 8th at Station Middle School. Please plan on arriving 15 minutes early to register. There is no cost for trying out. Parents are welcome to stay.
A makeup date of Wednesday September 25th at 7:30-9:00 pm for those players not able to make 9/21. PLEASE STILL REGISTER SO CONTACT INFORMATION IS PROPERLY OBTAINED.
Please click link to officially register for tryouts as registration will close on Thursday 9/19. Should you have a scheduling issue, please reach out to Coach Hudson at email@example.com
How many players on a team?
8-10 players per team, depending on turnout and interest.
How are teams selected?
Teams are selected during the tryouts based upon skill and ability when compared to their peers. Evaluations are conducted during the tryouts by knowledgeable, non-parent trainers/coaches. Players are evaluated on dribbling, shooting, defense, game play, basketball IQ and overall basketball skills.
How many teams at each level?
We are committed to doing our best to support two teams at each grade level (grades 5-8) and one team of 4th grade. Contingent on available court access, our goal is to provide each team an opportunity for at least two practices a week. A third team at any level will only be considered if additional gym time/ coaches are available or can be located. The decision on number of teams will be determined at tryouts or beforehand if possible.
How is playing time determined?
As the BHS feeder team, our goal is to provide opportunity for all players to develop game-time experiences. We will teach fundamental offensive and defensive basketball skills, along with team concepts, to better prepare our players for those who wish to play for the Barrington High School basketball team. Assuming players are participating in practices, paying attention and working hard at improving their basketball skills, every effort will be made to balance playing time equally. There should be no game in which a player who fully participates does not have a chance to play. Individual games may be affected by match-ups or composition of our own players.
Over the course of a season, we strive to offer balanced playing time for each player. This can be achieved only when players are placed in the best situation to succeed and we have full participation in practice sessions.
If you find your player is clearly falling outside these guidelines, please contact Coach Hudson.
