Should The Isles Claim Mike Reilly?
By Ryan Maher
This afternoon it was announced that for the second time in a month, the Boston Bruins have waived defenseman Mike Reilly.
Mike Reilly is a 29-year-old left shot defenseman, who has one assist in 10 games played this year with the Bruins.
Reilly, who provides offensive upside, has gotten the short end on the Boston back end this season. With Charlie Mcavoy and Derek Forbort scheduled to return, the Bruins waived Reilly.
Reilly currently makes 3 million per year and will be a UFA after next season.
So, why would Mike Reilly make sense for this Isles club?
Mike Reilly would make sense for the Isles to seal up their 3rd pair left defensive spot. Currently, Sebastian Aho has occupied that role and been so so.
Could Lamoriello want to bring a proven veteran to play that spot? It would allow Robin Salo to play every night in the AHL and continue to develop.
The cap hit of $3,000,000 makes Reilly quite pricy which may have Lamoriello staying away, but the reason to need Reilly is there.
We shall see what happens.
