Should The Islanders Trade For Brock Boeser?
By Ryan Maher
After a contract dispute, poor team success, and coach to player disagreements, it has been rumored in the hockey world that Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser has been given the right to explore a trade.
Boeser, 25, has 4 goals and 11 assists through 19 games this season. Boeser is a pure goal scorer. His career high in goals came in his rookie season when he was competing against Mat Barzal for the Calder trophy. Boeser tallied 29 goals in 62 games that year.
Brock has dealt with some injury trouble through his young career but is good for a 25-35 goals per year scorer penciled in.
According to David Pagnotta of the 4th period, the Islanders have had interest in Boeser in the past, so would it make sense for Lamoriello to try and bring a 2nd Brock to the Island?
There are a few ways to look at this.
Boeser carries a cap hit of 6.65 million for the next two seasons. While it is affordable, it can be risky due to Boeser’s reputation.
Boeser would be a legitimate top line winger to play with Mat Barzal but there could be a huge risk to it.
The Islanders would be forced to move a contract out to acquire Boeser due to cap implication.
A potential Beauviller+/Boeser swap would be an instant upgrade for the Islanders.
Boeser is still in his prime and possesses a rather high ceiling with his impressive skill and shot...
So, should the Islanders trade for Brock Boeser?
