It was announced this afternoon that the Islanders have placed 29-year-old winger Nikita Soshnikov on waivers.

Soshnikov has recorded 0 points in 3 games this season and has been a –2 +/- in those outings.

Soshnikov was brought in by Lamoriello on a cheap, league minimum deal to potentially provide speed in the bottom six.

Soshnikov has not been what Lamoriello wanted and he has been waived because of it.

Soshnikov can either be claimed or sent to Bridgeport where I question if he would report.

There is now an open roster spot on the big club.

Expect a forward such as Simon Holmstrom recalled to the Isles.
