The purpose of this site is showing you how to program your Baofeng radio and some insights on the settings that create most of the problems. I use the Baofeng when playing Airsoft, but the information is applicable for more situations then only Airsoft and more then just Baofeng radios.
In every skirm I have encountered problems with communications. Radio's that do not work, people joining your team but do not have a clue on how to change the frequency on their radio to match yours, crowded channels. We all have been there. So my tought was the more people use the correct radio setup, the better it will be and the more knowledge they have, the better they can help others. So here we are.
Feel free to share.
I'm not a radio / HAM / frequency expert of any kind. Seeing things that are not entirely correct? Drop me an e-mail and I might read it.
I live in the Netherlands, so most of the information about the license free channels is based on what is applicable here.
In the Netherlands, most Baofengs require a permit due to the power wattage, the fact that you can program other frequencies then the license free ones and because of the removable antenna. So be aware.
Programming is at your own risk. Don't blame me if you smoke your radio.
For the actual programming I use Chirp. This is a free software program for Windows, Mac or Linux and supports a ton of radio's. You can even run it on a Raspberry Pi if you like it small and even more portable than a laptop.
Besides a working computer with Chirp, you would also need a programming cable. For the Baofengs that would be something like this. Please be aware that the programming cables sold on Ali do not always work.
