To issue railway tickets, Bangladesh Railway Portal depends on different payment getaways for the Card/Wallet charge information. Bangladesh Railway does not store any sensitive information of Passengers such as Card/Wallet details, OTP, Pin Code. In case any Card/Wallet is charged and/or Payment Gateway fails to return the information in due time, it is possible that the passenger's Card/Wallet would be charged without being issued for the desired tickets. In such instances, Payment Gateways will automatically refund the purchased amount by the Client-Passenger to their respective Card/Wallet within 8 (eight) working days. However, in case such a Client-Passenger does not receive refund within 8 (eight) working days, the client Client-Passenger is requested to send a complaint email to support@eticket.railway.gov.bd with details of the issue. A reply to such a Client-Passenger will be sent within 7 working days. Due to the dependency on payment service providers, it might take several days to resolve the issue. For a refund of unsuccessful purchases and card charging issues, Client-Passenger must contact the Payment Service Provider through which s/he made the transaction. For a refund of successfully purchased tickets, the Client-Passenger must visit their respective originating station (i.e., Departure Station from which the Client-Passenger will travel) and contact the refund counter. Bangladesh Railway or Shohoz-Synesis-Vincen JV will not be held responsible for the non-issuance of tickets or delay of refund due to errors in payment processing or any other reasons that are beyond the control of Bangladesh Railway or Shohoz-Synesis-Vincen JV. Bangladesh Railway makes no guarantee/warranty that any of the above services will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free due to the dependencies on many Service Providers.

In case of any concerns or grievance against tickets purchased through the e-ticket website or Rail Sheba app, a passenger should notify Bangladesh Railway within 2 hours by sending an email along with the e-ticket details to support@eticket.railway.gov.bd.

Bangladesh Railway (Bengali:  ) is the state-owned rail transport agency of Bangladesh. It operates and maintains all railways in the country, and is overseen by the Directorate General of Bangladesh Railway. The Bangladesh Railway is governed by the Ministry of Railways and the Bangladesh Railway Authority. Its reporting mark is "BR".[4]

The Bangladesh Railway system has a total length of 3,600 kilometres (2,200 mi). In 2009, Bangladesh Railway had 34,168 employees.[5] In 2014, Bangladesh Railway carried 65 million passengers and 2.52 million tonnes of freight. The railway made 8,135 million passenger-kilometres and 677 million tonne-kilometres.[2] Bangladesh Railway in Dhaka has signed an agreement with Progress Rail to procure 40 diesel locomotives.[6]

On 1 July 1895, two sections of metre gauge railway were constructed by English railway companies. One connected Chattogram and Comilla 150.6 kilometres (93.6 mi). The other connected Laksam Upazila and Chandpur 51.2 kilometres (31.8 mi).[8]

As of 2005, the total length of the Bangladesh Railway is 3,600 kilometres (2,200 mi).[9] There was 1,225 kilometres (761 mi) of broad gauge track (mostly in the western region), 1,600 kilometres (990 mi) of metre gauge track (mostly in the central and eastern regions) and 1,600 kilometres (990 mi) of dual gauge track.[10] In 1998, the Jamuna Bridge was built to connect the previously divided east and west rail networks in dual gauge.[11] Bangladesh is currently[when?] converting its railway system to dual gauge system, to enable both broad gauge and metre gauge trains to run; it is also developing extensive railway transport relations with India. With the Bangladeshi and Indian Governments working side by side, at least 9 International Rail Transit System (IRTS) have come up presently in Bangladesh. They are as follows: - 1. Kolkata-Darsana-Iswardi-Dhaka; 2. Kolkata-Bangaon-Jessore-Khulna; 3. New Jalpaiguri-Haldibari-Chilahati-Iswardi-Dhaka; 4. Changrabandha-Burimari-Lalmonirhat-Teesta-Kaunia-Parbatipur; 5. Parbatipur-Dinajpur-Birol-Radhikapur-Raiganj-Barsoi; 6. Badarpur-Karimganj-Maishasan-Shabazpur-Kulaura-Sylhet/Chittagong; 7. Agartala-Akhaura-Dhaka/Chittagong; 8. Old Malda-Singhabad-Rohanpur-Rajshahi; 9. Eklakhi-Balurghat-Hili. While routes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 are already operational, routes 4 and 6 are being restored with routes 7 and 9 currently[when?] nearing construction completion.

In 2010, funding was received for a bridge over the Titas River.[12] In September 2010, the Government of Bangladesh approved ten rail development projects costing 199 billion Bangladeshi taka including plans for new tracks and rolling stock.[13] To bolster the bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh, the Ministry of Railways in India has supplied 20 Broad Gauge (BG) locomotives to its eastern neighbour, thus contributing to the railway infrastructure of Bangladesh. These locomotives have been appropriately modified by the Indian side to align with the requirements of Bangladesh Railway. The provision of these locomotives will aid in managing the growing volume of passenger and freight train operations in Bangladesh, thereby supporting the enhancement of its railway system.
