If you want a premium, lossless gaming headset with active noise cancellation specifically engineered for Xbox Series X|S, choose Bang & Olufsen Beoplay; if you need versatile, all-day open-ear headphones with exceptional battery life for general listening and multi-device switching, choose JLab JBuds Open.
• Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal: Delivers immersive, lossless audio via 2.4GHz wireless with Dolby Atmos for the ultimate Xbox experience, but trades off versatility as it is locked into the gaming ecosystem and lacks Bluetooth multipoint.
• JLab JBuds Open: Offers a breathable, open-back design with 24+ hours of playtime and seamless dual-device connectivity, though it lacks the deep isolation and proprietary gaming features required for competitive Xbox play.
• The Verdict: The B&O is the specialist choice for serious gamers who prioritize soundstage and chat clarity, while the JLab is the lifestyle pick for listeners who value comfort and battery longevity over specific console integration.
This product is not just another pair of headphones; it is a device built from the ground up to serve the specific demands of a gamer. If your primary goal is to immerse yourself in the virtual worlds of Xbox titles without any distraction, this is the tool designed for that exact purpose. The defining feature here is the lossless connection technology. Unlike standard Bluetooth which compresses audio, this unit connects wirelessly directly to your Xbox console or PC via a dedicated dongle. This ensures that every footstep, explosion, and dialogue line reaches your ears with zero latency and full fidelity. For anyone looking for foldable earbuds for xbox (or rather, foldable headphones for Xbox), this setup provides the stability and range needed for fast-paced sessions where lag is not an option.
The engineering behind the sound quality is equally impressive. It utilizes powerful 40-millimeter drivers paired with Dolby Atmos for Headphones technology. This combination creates a precise, spacious virtual surround sound that allows you to pinpoint exactly where threats are coming from in a game. You aren't just hearing sound; you are hearing direction and depth. Furthermore, the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is adaptive, meaning it actively eliminates background room noise so you can focus entirely on the match. This is critical when you are trying to hear the subtle sounds of an enemy approaching through a wall or a teammate calling out coordinates.

Comfort is another pillar of its design, specifically for long gaming marathons. Weighing in at roughly 282 grams, it feels light enough to forget you are wearing it. The headband uses a unique padding system to distribute pressure, while the memory foam earcups include jaw support to prevent fatigue. You can wear these for hours without the typical soreness found in heavier gaming headsets. The microphone array is equally specialized, using four separate microphones blended with "Own Voice" technology to create a virtual boom-arm effect. This ensures your teammates hear you clearly, even if you are shouting during intense moments. However, you must be willing to commit to this ecosystem. It is designed for Windows connections and Xbox, offering a streamlined experience for those specific platforms, but it may feel like overkill or lack the flexibility you need if you primarily use your headphones for casual music listening across different brands of devices.
If you find that you spend more time commuting, working, or relaxing than you do grinding ranked matches, the JLab JBuds Open offers a completely different philosophy. This isn't a headset built to isolate you from the world; it is built to let you exist comfortably within it. The standout feature is the open-back design combined with dual coaxial drivers. By using a 35mm driver alongside a 12mm driver, the sound is layered and spacious without sealing your ears off. This "open" approach means there is no pressure buildup inside the ear cup, making it ideal for anyone who finds traditional closed-back headphones stuffy or hot after an hour of wear.
Battery life is where this product truly shines. With an average life of 24 hours, you can charge it once and listen all day, including your evening unwind session. That is significantly more than the 19-hour battery life found in the B&O equivalent, and it gives you the freedom to go days without reaching for a charger. The JLab App also unlocks significant customization, allowing you to tweak EQ presets like Signature, Balance, or Bass Boost to suit your personal taste. Whether you are listening to podcasts, audiobooks, or high-energy playlists, you have granular control over how the audio sounds.
The versatility extends to connectivity as well. This unit supports Bluetooth Multipoint, allowing you to connect to two devices simultaneously—like your laptop and your phone. You can take a call on your phone without disconnecting from a Zoom meeting on your computer. This makes it an excellent companion for remote work or students who need to stay connected to multiple streams of information. The Cloud Foam earcups and rotating earcup design ensure a fit that adjusts to your head shape, providing a breathable, airy feel that prevents heat buildup. However, because of the open-back design and the lack of a dedicated lossless gaming protocol, it does not offer the same level of audio precision or chat clarity for competitive gaming as the B&O. It is best suited for those who prioritize comfort, battery endurance, and multi-tasking over the specific technical requirements of console gaming.
• Best for Competitive Gaming Audio → Bang & Olufsen Beoplay. The lossless 2.4GHz connection and Dolby Atmos provide a competitive edge that Bluetooth simply cannot match in terms of clarity and latency.
• Best for Battery Life → JLab JBuds Open. At 24 hours of continuous playtime, it beats the competitor's 19-hour limit, ensuring you never run out of power during a long day.
• Best for Multi-Device Users → JLab JBuds Open. Its Bluetooth Multipoint feature allows seamless switching between a phone and a laptop, whereas the B&O is optimized for a single console or PC link.
• Best for Long-Wear Comfort → Tie. Both use memory foam and padded headbands, but the B&O focuses on jaw support for gaming posture, while JLab focuses on breathability for open-air environments.
• Best for Microphone Clarity → Bang & Olufsen Beoplay. The four-mic array with beamforming and Own Voice technology is explicitly engineered for crystal-clear team communication.
• Best for General Music Listening → JLab JBuds Open. The open-back design offers a natural, room-filling soundstage that many prefer for casual music enjoyment compared to the focused isolation of the B&O.
• Best for Xbox Integration → Bang & Olufsen Beoplay. It features a dedicated Xbox theme and lossless wireless connection specifically tuned for the console, unlike the generic Bluetooth of the JLab.
• Best for Durability and Warranty → Tie. Both come with substantial build materials, though the JLab includes a specific two-year warranty while B&O offers three years.
In my opinion, if I were buying a new pair of headphones today specifically for my Xbox setup, I would choose the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay. The investment in lossless audio and the dedicated ANC features make it the superior tool for the job. When you are deep in a game, the difference between hearing a directional cue clearly and having it muffled by ambient noise is the difference between winning and losing. The immersive surround sound and the comfort of the jaw-supporting earcups are tailored perfectly for the marathon sessions we often endure while gaming. While the JLab is a fantastic, comfortable headphone for everyday life, it lacks the specialized architecture required to unlock the full potential of modern console gaming. For anyone serious about best wireless earbuds for xbox performance, the B&O is the only logical choice.
Yes, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is explicitly engineered for Xbox Series X|S and One with a lossless wireless connection. The JLab JBuds Open works via standard Bluetooth but does not offer the same direct, low-latency integration for gaming.
The JLab JBuds Open provides 24 hours of playtime, giving it a slight edge over the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay, which offers 19 hours. Both are sufficient for most users, but JLab wins on raw endurance.
Yes, the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay features Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation to block out background distractions. The JLab JBuds Open uses an open-back design to let ambient sound in, prioritizing situational awareness over isolation.
Both models handle calls well, but the B&O is superior for gaming voice chats due to its specialized four-microphone array. The JLab handles calls clearly too, but its open design lets more external noise into the conversation.
