If you want premium, low-latency gaming audio with immersive Dolby Atmos and a design that feels like luxury jewelry for your ears, choose Bang & Olufsen Beoplay; if you need marathon battery life, multi-device connectivity, and Hi-Res audio certification at a more accessible entry point, choose JLab.
• Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal: Its superpower is engineered lossless Xbox connectivity and adaptive noise cancellation tailored for competitive play, but it trades off general versatility by being deeply locked into the Microsoft ecosystem.
• JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition: Its standout feature is an industry-leading 90+ hour battery life with a wireless charging dock, though it lacks the specific low-latency optimization required for high-speed console gaming.
• Who each pick is for: Choose B&O for the dedicated gamer who values spatial precision and comfort during long sessions; choose JLab for the audiophile commuter or traveler who needs to last all week on a single charge.
The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is not just another pair of headphones; it is a tool built specifically for the modern gaming ecosystem. When you are looking for the best sports earbuds for workout, you might think of sweat resistance, but when you are deep in a ranked match or a narrative-driven campaign, what you really need is the best noise canceling gaming headphones for workout-style intensity. In this context, "intensity" means total immersion. The Portal delivers this through a lossless 2.4GHz connection designed exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This isn't about Bluetooth lag; it is about a direct, uncompressed audio pipeline that ensures your footsteps and gunfire sound exactly as they were mixed.
The acoustic engineering here is where the brand truly shines. By combining powerful 40-millimeter dynamic drivers with Dolby Atmos for Headphones, the soundstage becomes three-dimensional. You aren't just hearing sound; you are locating it. If you have ever tried to pinpoint an enemy behind a wall in a shooter game, this technology changes the dynamic entirely. The adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) works in tandem with this by eliminating background distractions, allowing you to focus purely on the game. It creates a bubble of silence that is essential for competitive play.

Comfort is another pillar of this design, and it is non-negotiable for anyone who plans to wear headphones for hours. Weighing only 282 grams, the Portal features a unique headband that distributes pressure evenly, paired with memory foam earcups that offer jaw support. The materials—aluminum, leather, and rubber—feel substantial and durable, suggesting these will withstand the rigors of daily use. However, there is a catch. This product is a specialist. If you do not own an Xbox, or if you primarily listen to music via a generic Android phone without the specific app integration, you lose access to the core features that make these headphones special. It is a fantastic companion for fast-paced gaming, but it requires you to be part of the specific ecosystem it was built for.
The JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition takes a completely different approach to the over-ear headphone market. Where Bang & Olufsen focuses on specialized performance, JLab focuses on endurance and flexibility. This is the ideal choice for someone who wants hifi stereo wireless earbuds for workout scenarios that extend far beyond the gym, perhaps moving from the track to the office and then onto a cross-country flight. The headline feature here is the sheer longevity of the battery. With up to 90 hours of playtime without ANC and 60+ hours with Adaptive ANC active, you can leave them charging Monday and forget about them until the weekend. This removes the anxiety of finding a power outlet constantly.
Audio quality is another major selling point, backed by Hi-Res Audio certification. Using 32-millimeter dynamic drivers, the headphones deliver full-range sound that supports LDAC on Android devices and AAC on iOS. This allows for high-fidelity streaming that captures nuances often lost in standard compression. The inclusion of Lab Spatial Audio with head tracking adds a layer of immersion that rivals much more expensive competitors, creating a three-dimensional soundscape around you. Furthermore, the Cloud Foam earcups are designed to distribute pressure evenly, making them suitable for all-day wear, whether you are working, traveling, or exercising.
Versatility is the true strength of the JLab design. The Bluetooth multipoint feature allows you to connect to two devices simultaneously, such as a laptop and a smartphone, switching seamlessly between them without re-pairing. This is a game-changer for productivity. You can take a call on your phone while a video plays on your computer, and the transition is instant. The included wireless charging dock eliminates cable hunting, adding to the convenience factor. While it may not have the specific low-latency optimizations for Xbox gaming that the B&O offers, its broad compatibility with iOS, Android, and PC makes it a universal tool for anyone who wants high-quality sound without being tethered to a single brand's ecosystem.
• Best for competitive gaming latency → Bang & Olufsen Beoplay (Lossless 2.4GHz Xbox connection).
• Best for marathon listening sessions → JLab (90+ hours battery life vs. 19 hours).
• Best for travel convenience → JLab (Wireless charging dock and multipoint connectivity).
• Best for spatial audio accuracy → Bang & Olufsen Beoplay (Dolby Atmos for Headphones tuning).
• Best for Hi-Res mobile streaming → JLab (LDAC and AAC support for Android/iOS).

• Best value for general entertainment → JLab (More features for broader use cases).
In my opinion, if I had to buy one pair today for a lifestyle that includes both intense gaming and long workdays, I would choose the JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition. The sheer practicality of the 90-hour battery life and the ability to switch effortlessly between my laptop and phone outweighs the specific gaming advantages of the B&O. For a buyer looking for the best sports earbuds for workout or a commute that spans multiple days, the JLab offers a freedom from the charger that the B&O simply cannot match. However, if your primary goal is strictly competitive Xbox gaming where every millisecond of audio matters, the B&O remains the superior specialist tool. Ultimately, the JLab wins on versatility and endurance, making it the safer, more useful investment for most people.
Both models are designed for comfort, but the JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition is explicitly marketed for travel and workouts with Cloud Foam cushions, while the B&O Portal is optimized for stationary gaming comfort rather than sweat resistance.
To unlock the full Hi-Res potential, you need an Android device with LDAC support; iOS users get AAC support, which still provides high-quality compression compared to standard Bluetooth codecs.
The Portal is engineered specifically for Xbox connectivity using a lossless 2.4GHz link. While it has Bluetooth, you will lose the proprietary low-latency benefits and specific gaming features when used with other consoles.
The JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition offers significantly longer usage with up to 90 hours of playtime, whereas the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal provides approximately 19 hours per charge.
