At the invitation of Banbury Rotary Club and under their auspices a meeting was held at the Whately Hall Hotel to discuss the possibility of forming a Probus Club. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jim. Pearson Smith (Rotary Club President). Other Rotarians present were: Mr. G. Clark, J.P., Mr. J. Smith, and Mr. H. Sanderson. Prior to this meeting Jim Pearson Smith asked John Smith to send out invitations to approximately thirty men living in the area who, it was thought, could be interested in becoming members of the new Club. About half of that number attended so a further meeting was arranged for 20 April 1970.
