Wesley Larlarb, age 16, lives in Burlingame, CA. Much of his training comes from the Stanford Jazz Workshop, where he's performed in small ensembles directed by luminaries such as Marquis Hill and Regina Carter. His primary instrument is piano, but he is also a proficient drummer. Wesley is currently studying under Jake Smolowe.
The idea for Banana Cycles, his debut album, came as Wesley rode alone through the hills around his house. Reflecting on the past year, he realized that many of his most defining experiences were punctuated by biking and eating bananas. Over several months, he recorded several songs, each about a different experience.
I woke up late and biked to school. Meaningless, chaotic motions.
People said I was crazy. I couldn't hear them through my headphones.
Having finished my homework, I pondered life and bananas.
I took a walk, late at night. I was unsure if I was shivering from the cold, or something else...
My head was spinning in this one, broh.
As some doors closed, others opened. Science.
