The sketchbook came in a matte, white box with an iridescent foil feather on the box. Inside, the sketchbook was wrapped in a waxed paper and included a bookmark and some stickers. This is a very deluxe package for a sketchbook that sells for less than $20.

Just for reference, the Col-o-ring Ink Testing Book is only 160gsm paper so the paper in the Bamboo Sketchbook really is THICK. If you like mixed media, craft, collage and using a wide array of creative materials, this is a great sketchbook option.

I started my pen testing with brush pens, markers, colored pencils and other art supplies. I drizzled fountain pen ink and even tried some watercolors. The paper is very smooth and reminds me of Bristol Board from art school in terms of weight and smoothness, but its all bound into a handy A5 notebook.

My quick verdict is that, yes, reusable bamboo paper towels are worth checking out if you are on a mission to reduce waste. They have their draw backs, but at the very least one roll will help you to reduce your waste and spending on papers towels by replacing 286 rolls of paper towels (bambooee.com).

These paper towels are made from a rayon that is produced from organic and sustainably sourced bamboo that is completely regrown each year. Because they are produced from a rayon this also means that they are not biodegradable or compostable.

There is a lot to like about these reusable bamboo paper towels. I really like how the materials are sourced for these. They are organic and sustainable sourced. Bambooee will also plant a tree for each roll that is purchased. I love that!

They work even better than paper towels by consistently absorbing more than regular paper towels. These are a great washable paper towel that you can easily wring without tearing and can be washed 100 times before they wear out.

They also help reduce waste and costs massively by replacing 286 rolls of paper towels(according to Bamboo). Which, at the time of writing this, would save somewhere in the ballpark of $450-700 depending on the quality of the paper towels you buy currently.

100% Organic natural fiber towels like these Waffle Cotton dish towel or these Flax & Cotton Linen dish towel from Rawganique. Both options should provide you with a solution that is more absorbent than paper towels. They can be washed and will last longer than reusable bamboo paper towels.

There are also a couple of other products that are similar to the bamboo towels but are produced in a way that allows them to be composted once they are worn out. I recommend checking out Wowables and If You Care (that is the companies actual name) Natural Reusable Towels.

Ultimately, reusable bamboo paper towels are a great product that I will probably not buy again. They have really helped me to cut down on my paper towel waste. Although I do still use paper towels for the really gross messes like cat throw up.

I just need to get over my weird hang up about not using towels to clean up the messes. I will have to buy some good 100% organic fiber cloth towels that I can use in the exact same way I use these reusable bamboo paper towels but can then compost them once they are used up.

I really loved the bamboo paper towels which I bought for around 3.25/roll at the grocery store. But they disappeared from store shelves and are now over 9.00 per roll online. 1)I don't buy ANYTHING online, 2) I resent the huge price increase. So I don't buy them anymore.

Thank you for this excellent article. We buy huge packs of paper towels at Costco, wrapped in plastic sadly and I was looking to bamboo paper towels as an alternative. Knowing that they are not compostable is a deal breaker. One that is not advertised much.

Thanks for the interesting review. I am a vegan (with a background in chemistry), and I opt for the Hahnemhle Bamboo Mixed media because it is vegan-friendly. According to some information, the cellulose derived from bamboo is actually as long as the cellulose derived from cotton. I was informed by Hahnemhle that sizing is possibly modified starch or another non-animal based sizing. I am learning to paint and draw, and I do agree with you that the layers can lift off when glazing in watercolour. Strathmore 500 series unfortunately has gelatine sizing according to the manufacturer, so its not an option for me. I purchase large sheets (70100 cm 2.50 euro) and rolls (65 euro), where I live sheets are cheaper than the blocks. So I use it alongside Fabriano Artistico (cold press, hot press and rough, which are also vegan-friendly) alongside Hahnemhle Expression paper (100%cotton and vegan-friendly too) which are great options, so that I can adapt to the Bamboo paper. I am also looking forward to trying out the agave watercolour paper (290 gsm) which is made from sustainable materials and is also vegan-friendly.

Although it's very hard to emulate the real thing on a touch screen, Bamboo Paper does a surprisingly good job in recreating a pen on paper feel. Ideally, Bamboo Paper should be used with a tablet and stylus but you can also paint and draw with your fingers although the accuracy can be poor this way and it's obviously not the same experience.

You can choose from a number of different notebook styles or themes, with various paper types, colors and textures. You can add pictures and photos to your notes, and export to online storage sites such as DropBox and Evernote and share via Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world, growing up to 3 feet per day while absorbing massive amounts of carbon during its growth! Bamboo reaches harvest maturity in just three years, and unlike trees, bamboo does not need to be replanted after it is harvested as the bamboo will continue to grow.

Large, traditional toilet paper companies source their softest toilet paper from old-growth forests. These forests are essential for preserving ancient eco-systems and storing enormous amounts of carbon. Switching to bamboo keeps these forests in-tact!

Better than any other natural paper towel I have tried. We don't use a lot of paper products in our home, but we do to dry food, meats etc. The thought of using a bleached out paper on foods scares me, using rustic strength gives us peace of mind. They hold up well compared to most other brands, very strong.

Absorbent and sturdy enough to get to work on heavy spills, kitchen messes and cleanup needs. These tree-free bamboo paper towels are strong enough for any spill. Made from soft & sustainable bamboo, not trees! Free of chlorine bleaching and chemicals, too. 2-ply bamboo paper towels with 75 sheets per roll. 8 rolls per box. Total of 600 sheets.

The paper industry clear cuts 1,000,000 acres of North American boreal forest each year. While trees may be replanted (and re-cut) the forest is gone forever. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing, least needy grasses on the planet. Bamboo uses a fraction of the water to grow and produce. And, bamboo does not require chemical pesticides or herbicides to grow and thrive. Daily decisions like choosing Caboo do make a difference. We and the forest thank you!

tag_hash_109Introducing a tree-free paper that's eco-friendly and luxurious: Legion Bamboo. Composed of one of the most renewable resources available (bamboo can grow 3-4 feet per day!), this surface features a lush texture. It handles dry media and light washes beautifully, weighing 265gsm. This pad of 15 sheets was specially made just for ArtSnackers, so you won't find it anywhere else!

I love the quality of this heavy paper. I make awesome birthday cards for my 6 grandchildren. They are sturdy and stand up to being passed around and displayed easily. I use watercolors, pens and ink, etc. We need more great things made from Bamboo!!!!

Bamboo paper has excellent ink absorption and good toughness. Last year, I visited a modern pulp and paper factory in Guizhou, which was a high-tech industrial plant, but bamboo paper is also being produced by local artisans. Nancy Norton Tomasko has written an interesting article in 2010 about hand-made bamboo paper production, and she mentions that Fuyang in Hangzhou district in Zhejiang province, China, is the most famous place for traditional bamboo paper production in China.

INBAR produced a Transfer of Technology Model for manufacturing hand-made bamboo paper in 2001. This describes the process, and makes the case that producing bamboo paper is a relatively low-investment use of bamboo fibres. It could be done anywhere where there is healthy bamboo, and I could be an opportunity for local industry development in many INBAR Member States, as you need minimal infrastructure and capital investment.

I was in Hangzhou recently to participate in the award ceremony for the Most Beautiful Bamboo Village in Hangzhou. During the trip, I also paid a visit to the Hangzhou Fuyang Greater Yuan Zhu Paper company where they make paper by hand from bamboo fibres.

The bundles of bamboo pieces are stacked side by side under water, and lime is added to accelerate the decomposing process. This particular company prides itself on the fact that no chemicals are used, and natural lime is added to reduce the PH in the bath, and to allow for the decomposing of the bamboo fibres. If chemicals are used, the process may be faster, but the waste water is polluted. In the case of the Greater Yuan Zhu Paper company there is no chemical pollution, and the waste water is released into the nearby stream. ff782bc1db
