Minecraft Education Edition is a popular tool based on Minecraft. It is used to teach students various important methods like building and coding via Javascript and Python. Even though Minecraft Education Edition is not very commonly used, it still has a lot of features similar to other versions of Minecraft. You can install as many mods and addons as you want in the game.

One should also note that not all mods and skins available for the standard version of Minecraft, including Bedrock and Java, are compatible with Minecraft Education Edition. Be sure to check the compatibility with your version of Minecraft Education Edition before downloading.

Hello! Since the update to version 1.20, it is not possible to import maps, mods, skins from the desktop from a file with the extension .mcpack/ .mcworld etc. Every time I try to open such a file using Minecraft, it tries to reinstall the game. Is there a way to restore this functionality from before the update? Regards!

1st screenshot says it its initializing an instalation, 2nd one basically says that instalation is canceled.

To me, it seems like whether MC is closed or open, you're likely going to encounter the issue if it's the first time opening the pack. Doesn't matter if it came from a website, or custom built. It may eventually open if you wait long enough (although in some cases it fails completely), or drop it into the folders manually. Once you delete the pack, and try importing it again, the issue disappears, so it must be caching something that resolves the issue.

While we have a work around in a way, it's certainly going to be a problem for those just jumping into content building, and this is something that is being promoted by Minecraft Education through the mentors and ambassadors. As Sarah said, while we don't officially support add-ons and mods, the system for importing them should be.

As a stealth/ games-based/ STEM/ Digital tech teacher/ 21st Century facilitator of many years ... (I think that covers it) it is SO sad that mods are not available. I created many, many servers on MinecraftEDU (yes yes I know this is different from Minecraft EE) that had unparalleled potential and learning outcomes.

One of the servers I added NPC missions and objectives that ran for years, which saw students escape a dying Earth and travel the stars (GalacticCraft Mod), setting up colones on other planets (gravity, air, resources, technology management and learning) ... the learning outcome were so AMAZING and vast it would take me a few weeks to list them all. We had so much learning and content that it is sad they wont be doing it here. We learnt about the solar system, created rockets, fuel, solar power, space stations in this one mod alone. On other servers we created history lessons through the Wonderful world of humanities mod and even created a 'Mystery in Time' quest, using the DOctor Who Mod and the paleontology mod. Also things like lockable doors, laser mod, weather mod, vehicles mod, Instant Massive Structures mod, disasters mod, more animals mod, etc etc were fantastic as it made the platform dynamic and the Swiss Army knife to the curriculum, to suit the needs of a Minecraft educator that can adapt a server to sooooo many possibilities. I think if they built this into the current EE they would find the community are clever enough to use mods that are trusted and suitable for each age group, and develop content that would spread like wildfire. Anyway .... thoughts? Comments?

Answer: Although Minecraft: Education Edition isn't compatible with game Mods, there are many ways you can enhance your experience in the game. Check out our coding lessons to learn how to create your own stories and games! -resources/coding-with-minecraft

@... thank you for the info! All worlds that have been approved for use with Minecraft: Education Edition can be found on our lessons page and a subset of them are in the Library in-game. While MCPEDL is a legitimate marketplace partner for Minecraft Bedrock, externally hosted ads and content presented on their site can contain threats. Also, since Minecraft: Education Edition tends to run a version or so behind Bedrock it's very possible that the mods you download won't run on Minecraft: Education Edition.

I understand why you do not want mods, however mods will probably help students learn. You can have a coding lesson or template for teachers to use for creating custom items and blocks because lets say they are learning about math, the teacher can code in a custom item (lets say the number 1) that can be used with + and another number. Furthermore, you can use them in premade worlds such as the Oregon trail and add "sack of beans" to show what they were bringing on the trip.

Here, however, is where I differ from many in the Minecraft Education community. When teachers cry out that they love certain mods and what they bring to the experience what I actually think they mean is that they have found a mod which serves a particular purpose in enhancing the learning experience they can offer. I think there is a golden opportunity here to do it differently, more efficiently and more with more stability than ever. ff782bc1db
