Drop Off Locations

Before you drop off, it is very helpful if you are able to stack the bags. This will save a lot of time for the next person who will be cutting the bags into strips. Steps to stack bags:

1 - ensure bag is clean, not torn, and turned right side out

2 - straighten out each bag by pulling the bottom corner and the handle at the same time on each side, while ensuring that the sides are neatly tucked in

3 - lay the bag flat and smooth it with your hands so that it becomes flat

4 - align the bottoms of the bags, stacking bags like plates, preferably by size and weight

5 - place the flattened stack in a box.

If you are able to continue with the next step to cut strips which become plarn, that would be great too. When the bags are flat and bottoms aligned, cut off the bottom, and then continue cutting every 3 inches until you reach the handles (except outer milk bags which are every 2 inches since they are heavier). These cut strips are loops, which are looped together to become plastic yarn (plarn). There is a page on our website called Step by Step which has detailed instructions.
