This aircraft was built in 1973 and delivered to JAL as JA8117, where it served until 1988. It was notably a sister aircraft of JA8119, which crashed as Japan Airlines Flight 123. In 1988, it was retired then picked up by NASA where it was converted to a shuttle aircraft. It served there until 2012, when it was written from use. It was put on display at the Heritage Center, where it remains today.
